This weeks word of the day comes from the Noongar people.
Noongar means ‘a person of the south-west of Western Australia,' or the name for the ‘original inhabitants of the south-west of Western Australia' and we are one of the largest Aboriginal cultural blocks in Australia.

Noongar are made up of fourteen different language groups
Noongar boodja – country covers the entire south-western portion of Western Australia. The boundary commences on the west coast at a point north of Jurien Bay, proceeds roughly easterly to a point approximately north of Moora and then roughly south-east to a point on the southern coast between Bremer Bay and Esperance."

It’s World Diabetes Day and we at Dreamtime Art Creative Consultancy are proud to showcase one of our team members who is thriving with diabetes.

DACC Operations Assistant, Ashleyrose Gilham lives with Type 1 diabetes. Officially dubbed our Deevabetic In Motion, she is not one to shy away from a challenge, and in true spirit, is in the home stretch of her own Triple Crown Marathon Series.

Having run the Melbourne Marathon on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong in October and the world’s largest marathon, the New York City Marathon last week, on Lenapehoking with a team of people living with Type 1 diabetes, she is now just shy of a month away from her third marathon in three months, the Honolulu Marathon on O’ahu, Hawaii.

Ashleyrose proudly trained for her Triple Crown Marathon Series on Wadawurrung Country and continues the final leg of training on her native Kumeyaay Country (San Diego, CA, USA). She acknowledges and pays respect to the First Peoples of these beautiful lands rich in culture and tradition.

DACC is proud to support Ashleyrose, and we invite you to do the same in uplifting this impressive endeavor by donating to Beyond Type 1. It’s an incredible diabetes organization funding advocacy, education, and research to provide awesome programs globally in order to change what it means to live with diabetes. More about Ashleyrose's story and how you can get involved in a global effort to change the lives of those with a chronic illness below:

As month comes to a close, this quote by, beautaplin, -based author, struck a cord.
Our communities bear battle scars and wounds passed down through generations and made sore by the ways of the world, the daily crusades for the betterment of our mobs, and the injustices that seem to find no resolution.
Let's continue to make a conversation and prioritise healing no matter how long it may take.

This Indigenous Business Month we think it's important to also applaud the work done by Traditional Owner Groups, they function as businesses, advocates, and bastions of culture! Their continued actions are solely for a better tomorrow for our communities.

"Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer for First Nations women, similar to their counterparts in the wider Australian population. Although First Nations women are 0.9 times as likely to be diagnosed, they are more likely to die from breast cancer. The 5-year relative survival rate for First Nations population is also lower (81%) compared to the general population (92%)."
