RETURNING IN 2014! Featuring some of Australia’s finest Burlesque & Cabaret performers. Red Door Burlesque was founded in 2005 by Australia’s Premier Burlesque troupe, Hi-Ball Burlesque. Hi-Ball were the first burlesque troupe in the country, they formed in 2002 and were dedicated to reviving the classic, glamorous style of burlesque made famous in the 1950s. Hi-Ball had such a following in Melbou
rne that they decided to produce their own monthly Burlesque R***e! It was named after the red door at the Order of Melbourne, which is where the event lived for 6 years! Red Door was Melbourne’s first regular burlesque night, with shows on the last Sunday of every month. It became so popular, that for a while it even ran weekly, on Sunday night’s! The Red Door stage saw not only the countries finest Burlesque stars, but also hosted Comedian’s, Circus Performers and Cabaret stars. Many highly regarded and talented performers have graced the Red Door stage over the years, such as…. Hi Ball Burlesque, DJ Emma Peel, Captain Kidd, Andrew McClelland, Wes Snelling, Gypsy Wood, Tasia, Comedian Matthew Hardy, Supergirly, The Birdmann, Lillikoi Kaos, Dan Power, Anna Lumb, The Strawberry Siren, Lola the Vamp and Australia’s Queen of Burlesque - Imogen Kelly! Plus international guests such as The English Gents, Marawa the Amazing and Empress Stah! Red Door was always a great place for single people… It spawned many short and long term relationships among audience members! The Red Door audience were always extremely enthusiastic and was made up, of not only burlesque fans, but tourists, celebrities and Melbourne socialites. In mid 2011, Hi-Ball Burlesque decided to hang up their dancing heels and producing hats and handed the keys to Red Door, over to Miss Burlesque Victoria 2010… The Strawberry Siren, who had been producing shows in Melbourne for the previous 3 years and had also, clocked 5 years on the national Burlesque stage. The Strawberry Siren’s career actually launched at Red Door Burlesque in 2007, at it’s annual “Burlesque Quest” night, for up and coming performers. Sadly in early 2012 Red Door Burlesque closed it’s doors. While the Burlesque scene in Australia and Melbourne was in full swing at this time, with over 2 dedicated Burlesque Venues in Melbourne alone, plus the launch of the Australian Burlesque Festival and the Miss Burlesque Australia competition! Audiences were spoilt for choice and overwhelmed with the amount of Burlesque night’s available to them. Due to this high demand for Burlesque, The Strawberry Siren was run off her feet and decided to focus on her performing career, which she did! In 2012 Strawberry set out on a National Tour of Australia, which then turned into a 2013 World Tour, taking her to the UK, USA, Sweden & Canada! She also managed to win Miss Burlesque Australia 2013! The Strawberry Siren has decided that 2014 is the year for the return of Red Door Burlesque! Sadly, Red Door has outgrown it’s original home of The Order of Melbourne. This means that the show is going to be even BIGGER! Meaning a bigger venue, bigger audience capacity and a larger scale show! So hold onto your seats…. You’re in for a treat!
