Coming soon to Bayley Arts Gallery!

Repetition and Drift brings together the work of Bayley Arts artists Robyn Doherty and Elizabeth Nicolaou, two artists with very different visual styles, connected by the focus and immersion they bring to their art making.

Robyn works through intricate patterns, structure and repetition, while Elizabeth’s work moves more intuitively across the page, bending, turning and drifting as it goes.

Together, their work explores what happens when you become completely absorbed in the creative process.

Join us for the opening of Repetition and Drift.

• Friday 28 August
• 6pm to 8pm
• Bayley Arts Gallery, 1 Avoca Street, Highett

The exhibition runs from 24 August to 10 September.

Explore the beautiful possibilities of waterless lithography in this one day workshop with professional printmaker Neil Wallace.

Often used to create painterly prints, lithography can be a complex process, but this safer and more accessible technique uses specially prepared aluminium plates and basic art materials to create detailed, tonal prints.

Neil will guide you step by step through plate preparation, image transfer, tonal drawing, inking and printing, with all materials provided.

Across four Tuesday evenings at Bayley Arts, David will guide artists through the fundamentals of oil painting, from colour basics and translucent watercolour effects to textured impasto and wet-into-wet blending.

This hands-on short course is designed for both emerging and experienced artists, with time to explore abstract and realist approaches, discuss influential artists, and apply new techniques into a final painting.

David brings an incredible depth of experience to the studio. Based between Melbourne and Leipzig, he is a former Archibald Prize and Sulman Prize finalist, and the 2024 winner of the inaugural Clarice Beckett Painting Prize at Bayside Gallery.

In celebration of her 80th year, Steffie Wallace presents a retrospective exhibition spanning four decades of painting. Her involvement in art started at the National Gallery Art School in the 1960s and Art and Design at Prahran CAE in the 1970s.

Wallace has since become known for her evocative, atmospheric landscapes which have been short listed in numerous national and international awards. Her career highlights include winning second prize for ‘painting’ at the 2015 Florence Biennale, a solo show at Broken Hill Regional Gallery 2018, and an artist residency at Bayside Gallery, Brighton, 2022.
