PONTIAN: Πραγματικά αναρωτιέμαι πολύ: Τι έκανα σε ποιον και δεν τελειώνουν αυτά τα βασανιστήρια που μου κάνουν; Πού είναι η Ποντιακή κοινότητα τώρα που αυτός ο άνθρωπος χρειάζεται στήριξη;

Για τα αρχεία, ευχαριστούμε την εφημερίδα «Τα Νέα» για το αφιέρωμα στην ειδική εκπομπή του Xeniteas από το στούντιο 3XY στη Μελβούρνη. Ήταν τιμή μας να ακούσουμε τον καλεσμένο Γιάννη Απαζίδη από τη Βοστώνη να μιλάει για την ποντική του ταυτότητα και την πορεία του, καθώς και για το μήνυμά του σχετικά με τη σημασία της διαφύλαξης της μουσικής μας κληρονομιάς και των πολιτιστικών μας δεσμών. Ευχαριστούμε τους τοπικούς μουσικούς Κώστα Κωστήδη, Πέτρο Τσομπανόπουλο, Μιχάλη Βασιλείου και Αλέξανδρο Πιλαλίδη που τον συνόδευσαν με παραδοσιακές μελωδίες από τον Πόντο. Η εκπομπή αποτέλεσε μια ισχυρή υπενθύμιση του τρόπου με τον οποίο η κοινή ιστορία και ο πολιτισμός μας ενώνουν πέρα από γενιές και σύνορα. For the archives, thank you to "Ta Nea" for the feature on Xeniteas’s special broadcast from the 3XY studio in Melbourne. It was a privilege listening to guest Yiannis Apazidis from Boston reflect on his Pontian identity and journey, alongside his message on the importance of preserving our musical heritage and cultural associations. Thank you to local musicians Kostas Kostidis, Petros Tsompanopoulos, Michalis Vasileiou, and Alexandros Pilalidis for accompanying him with traditional melodies from Pontos. The broadcast was a powerful reminder of how shared history and culture connect us across generations and borders. Thank you to everyone who tuned in, and to Yianni for his sincerity. May 19, Remembrance Day for the indigenous Greek Christians of Pontus who perished in the first genocide of the 20th century.

In the struggle between denial and silence, silence wins hands down. That is, silence wins out over denial if the genocide of a people is to be complete, rendering victims invisible as if they never existed. (Halo, T. Not Even My Name: A True Story. Picador, 2000. Lethal Nationalism, Genocide of the Greeks 1913-1923, Lambrinatos, P, 2019).

For 110 years, silence has reigned.

Ensure that their memory is not forgotten by refusing to participate in the erasure of their existence. Honour the suffering, displacement, and resilience of the surviving diasporic community, and recognise the identity forged by both.

Enduring memory,
Enduring spirit,
We remember.

19 Μαΐου, Ημέρα Μνήμης για τους αυτόχθονες Έλληνες Χριστιανούς του Πόντου που έχασαν τη ζωή τους στην πρώτη γενοκτονία του 20ού αιώνα.

Στον αγώνα μεταξύ άρνησης και σιωπής, η σιωπή κερδίζει αβίαστα. Δηλαδή, η σιωπή νικά την άρνηση εάν η γενοκτονία ενός λαού είναι να είναι πλήρης, καθιστώντας τα θύματα αόρατα, σαν να μην υπήρξαν ποτέ. (Halo, T. Not Even My Name: A True Story. HarperCollins, 2000. Για 110 χρόνια, η σιωπή κυριαρχεί.
