Howies Bike Workshop

Howies Bike Workshop Servicing Altona Meadows and surrounds This was followed by the BMX that I loved to pull apart just to make sure its all good.

From an early age I have loved to tinker with things, bikes being something in particular that has always caught my fascination. From the first time the chain came off our tricycle in the 80's and my brother and I figured out getting it back on (unfortunately with his fingers caught in the chain). I have continued to learn as I have progressed with bikes over the years, from a rigid mountain bike

in the 90's to a full suspension mountain bike more recently I have kept my knowledge of bike evolving from rebuilding a road bike from scratch, to the joys of learning to bleed hydraulic brakes after my brake line getting skewered on the trails.more recently learning the ins and outs of DI2 firmware compatibility and updating. I have always felt a great pride and accomplishment when working on bikes and outside of family and work it is one of my biggest passions. During lock-down number 2 my career as a project manager in the entertainment industry ground to a halt and Howie's bike workshop was born what started as a way to past the time to stop me from Losing my mind has developed into my passion. One of the thing that I really enjoy doing in the work shop is giving bikes a 2nd lease on life Re-spray and replacing some components to get the most out of the bike. Logan's road bike was looking a bit long in the tooth with several paint chips and plenty of scratches after discussion we decided on a 3 colour Design with a Blue Keiren flake over the top it was Finish with a Transparent matt top coat. The results came our better than Logan hoped and he was Really excited to be out back on the bike

Fresh goods arriving just in time for Christmas
Introducing The Ibera Roll On Vertcal Bike Rack for Bikes with Wheels from 20 - 29inch with a capacity for tyres up to 2.5 inches wide.
Roll-on function allows virtually anyone, regardless of size or strength, to effortlessly place a bike onto the hanger without lifting. Side-swing design allows rotation of a hanging bike either left or right (parallel to the wall), saving space. Your bike is kept conveniently out of the way. Hanger is retractable, folding flat against the wall when not in use. Rear wheel rest keeps the rear wheel in position and protects the wall.

The importance of regularly getting your chain inspected for Wear.
Both of these Chains have the same ammount of links as you can see the Chain on the right has a Significant ammount of wear. Unfortunately this ammount of wear has incresed the price of the Service as the chain has damaged not only the cassette but the Deraillier pulleys and the Front Chain rings as well.
the General Guideline for Chains on a geared bike is 0.75 is needing replacement 1% Replace chain and cassette inpsecpt Pulleys and Chain rings

the thresholds are less for 12speeds

if you are unsure about how much wear your chain has drop me a message to book in to come past.

With the warmer months upon us it is great to see so many people out Riding their Bikes,
For many it is the first time in months for their faithful steed to come out of storage, long periods of storage can present some issues in itself. Here are some signs that your bike is due for a service.
* It has been more than a year since your last service
* Your tyres have deflated wilst in storage and you can see cracking in the tread/sidewall
*Your brakes are Spongy or not working as they should
*You are hearing a lot of squeaking as you ride
* The gears aren't shifting smoothly

With After hours drop off and pickup available Howie's Bike workshop is here to help and to work with you to get your ride rolling as sooth as Possible.
