Music Theatre. Boutique Singing Studios also caters for students who wish to just come to sing as a hobby, for fun or, more seriously wish to make singing their profession. The Director of Boutique Singing Studios, Joanna Cole, has experience for over 30 years as a professional singer, beginning as a young teenager as part of the Westfield Super Juniors, progressing to singing as an award winning Soprano on stages both in Australia and throughout the World.

This was one of the late Margreta Elkins' gems...

"It is not the things you do in life but those things you don't do that you will regret."

The late Margreta Elkins AM or, 'Greta' as I knew her, was my singing teacher in my postgraduate year at Queensland Conservatorium of Music. She was a great Australian mezzo soprano, often singing operatic roles alongside the late Dame Joan Sutherland and recording for Decca with Dame Joan and Richard Bonygne as conductor. Margreta also sang and recorded alongside Maria Callas with Tullio Seafin conducting.

Greta was honoured with an Australian medal (AM) in 1984 and in 1986 she was awarded an Honourary Doctorate from University of Queensland.

I remember with fondness my lessons with Greta and all the wisdom and guidance she passed to me and I am grateful.

Early in my singing career, I had the privilege of being mentored by the great Australian opera soprano, Dame Joan Sutherland. After Joan's final performance at the Sydney Opera House, she wrote me a personal letter that finished with the words: 'It won't be easy but hang in there!'

Professional singing has many challenges but Joan's words of advice have stayed with me to this day. I love encouraging my own students to keep going as they find their voice and fulfil their true potential.

Hi I'm Joanna Cole, the Director of Boutique Singing Studios.

I began my singing career as a hobby and I have been blessed with being able to live my dream.

My passion became my full-time career. I am also blessed to have academic and teaching qualifications as well.

Now I can pass on to the next generation of singers my wealth of knowledge that 30 years in show business and my excellent teachers and role models in the business have taught me.

It is a privilege to walk alongside my students and witness their growth as they achieve their singing goals.
