Snapshots from the making of I topi non avevano nipoti 🐁 What an epic journey! These three actors have been investing their time for over 5 weeks, cultivating their craft, exploring human nature, while carrying on with their jobs, their lives and looking after their families. I bow to you fellow actors 🎭

A special thanks to my artist collaborators and friends who helped me keep the rehearsal space sacred, safe and engaging: Alistair Ward, Brendan O'Connor and Louisa Wang. I couldn't nor wouldn't do it without you 🙏

Meet the assistant director:
ALISTAIR WARD

I TOPI NON AVEVANO NIPOTI
Festival of Mother Tongues 17 - 19 November at COASIT Melbourne

Alistair (he/ him) is a dynamic, bold, and experienced multihyphenated creative who has been fortunate enough to have lived & worked in New York City, London, Sydney, and Melbourne. The founder and Artistic Director of Pansy Productions, he is an award-winning graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Alistair has written three staged plays, with his debut show ‘twenty-something,’ that he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in, winning the People’s Choice Award to sold out audiences at the 2019 Melbourne Fringe Festival. He has just produced and staged 'Victory Lap,' a new work written and directed by Mashaka Gunnulson, and is currently writing his fourth play, and his first short film.

This is his third time working with Luca Romani, and his second time with Roman Flowers Theatre Company – the first as an actor, this time as assistant director – and he is very excited for the challenge since he doesn’t speak a word of Italian (though he does speak French).

We love you with all our heart

Meet the cast:
SUSAN PATERNO

I TOPI NON AVEVANO NIPOTI
Festival of Mother Tongues 17 - 19 November at COASIT Melbourne

Susan Paterno has had an illustrious career and life. Starting in Melbourne she worked in theatre, film & tv, before spending a season in New York training at the Atlantic Theatre Company. She then flew to London spending a decade working on numerous films, tv and theatre. Before taking time away from acting to focus on raising her daughter, she could be seen on television in Australian staples such as Neighbours, City Homicide and Blue Heelers.
Susan recently came back from a trip to Italy reconnecting with her heritage, and visiting family. She is thrilled to get to work in Italian on stage with La Mama again.

Don't miss the chance to see in her element!

Meet the cast:
NORES CERFEDA

I TOPI NON AVEVANO NIPOTI
Festival of Mother Tongues 17 - 19 November at COASIT Melbourne

After several experiences on stage that started his acting career, Nores graduated at the "London Academy of Radio, Film & TV" and at the academy "Fondamenta", in Rome. Until 2010, he directed, and acted in the Italian company Smaramaldi, for which he also authored some shows. Back in London, he studied Method acting with Sam Rumbelow while working as an actor and voice-over artist.
In Australia since 2014, Nores participated in several theatre and film productions while studying for his PhD at the University of Melbourne, which he obtained shortly before the world shut down.
Some of his theatre credits include Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice", McDuff in "Macbeth", Galileo in "The Judas Kiss" (his first show in Australia) and the monologues "Kafka's Monkey" and "Joyous Depression", that he co-wrote.

Come and see Nores shine in I Topi Non Avevano Nipoti in a couple of weeks!
