📣 Announcing our 2025 Adjudicator!
The CVSC is excited to welcome Dr David Greco as our adjudicator for 2025 🎶

“An acclaimed interpreter of oratorio and concert work, he appears regularly with Australia’s finest orchestras including the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Australian Haydn Ensemble, and notably with the Sydney Symphony in their recent Helpmann Award-winning concerts of Bach and Bartok.
He has become closely associated with Britten’s War Requiem, making his debut in this work with West Australia Symphony Orchestra in 2022, and again in 2023 with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Most recently David appeared as soloist in Verdi’s Requiem in the Sydney Opera House, Mahler’s Symphony No.8 with West Australia Symphony Orchestra, and the Durufle Requiem with Sydney Symphony.

Equally experienced on the operatic stage, he has been a principal artist with Opera Australia in The Eighth Wonder, The Love of Three Oranges, and most recently in the role of Valens in their 2024 Summer Season of Handel’s Theodora. In 2023 he made his debut with Christ Church Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand, as Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas
As a recording artist David has an impressive catalogue of international recordings including Jack Body’s Poems of Love & War on the Naxos label and Solo bass cantatas of J.S. Bach, with the Netherlands-based Luthers Bach Ensemble on the Brilliant Classics label.”

On Sunday afternoon, the 2024 CVSC came to a close. It was another amazing year of performance, with fabulous singing from all of our competitors. 🎶🤩

Across three days, we had over 20 hours of performances with 240 entries 🎉 The competition concluded on Sunday with a masterclass with our esteemed adjudicator, Theresa Borg.

The second day of the 2024 CVSC has concluded, with one day left to go! 🎶 Over 100 spectacular performances today by all competitors 🤩

We closed out the day with Section 101, the CVSC VCE Award. Competitors in this section perform a portion of their current VCE program demonstrating contrasting works, and showcase least two languages. Tonight, Lucy Nieuwesteeg took out first prize in this very special section 🏆 Adjudicator Theresa Borg (pictured left) commented on the extremely high standard of Lucy’s small recital, noting that it was at a university standard. Congratulations, Lucy! 🎉

Last day of performances tomorrow, followed by the masterclass with our esteemed adjudicator for all competitors to attend. 🎶🎹

Our first day of glorious singing has come to a close, finishing up tonight with the Novice Aria Award. 🎶 20 amazing emerging talents battled it out for the top prize, with countertenor, Anderson Mokyiu, taking home the title of the 2024 Novice Aria Award winner, with Isabella Hincksman as runner up 🏆 Our incredible adjudicator, Theresa Borg, spoke very highly of all the competitors, and gave invaluable guidance and advice in her beautiful adjudication.

The stage (and adjudicators desk) are set for the 2024 Classical Voice Singing Competition which kicks off tomorrow! 🎶

And just look at this incredible Kawai GX-6 Concert Grand piano delivered and freshly tuned today, provided by one of our major sponsors, 😍 This absolutely gorgeous instrument will be put to work over the next three days, with our official accompanist Isaac Mouskovias accompanying over 230 performances on it! We are so grateful to Stewart Kelly’s House of Pianos for their generosity and continued support!

✨ Now, for one our program highlights! ✨

The Novice Aria Award is a very special section for competitors in Years 9 - 12. All competitors must present one aria of their choice, in the original language for which it was composed. As this is a Novice Aria section, arias may come from any source, including Oratorio, Opera, or Operetta, or even sources such Arie Atiche or the 24 Italian Songs and Arias. 🎶

All sections have a cash prize, but the aria offers a special prize of $250.

The last section in our amazing line-up of offerings is the Duet or Trio section 👯

Competitors in this section are to present a duet or trio of their own choosing, taken from the classical repertoire, legit musical theatre, or a contemporary work written to be sung in a classicl style. Some harmony must be demonstrated 🎶

As we near the end of looking at our sections on offer, today we are looking at the AMEB Own Choice Solo 🎶

This section offers a wide variety of possible styles for competitors, with performers required to sing one item of their own choice taken from any of the AMEB vocal syllabi (or equivalent) 🎼

The next section we are looking at, is the Religious or Sacred Song section 🎶

Competitors in this section are to perform a work of their own choice with a relgious or sacred theme. Competitors may also perform arias from Oratorio. 🎼

Kicking us off on this cold Monday morning, the next sections we are exploring are the Musical Theatre and Golden Age Musical Theatre Ballad 🎼

✨ Musical Theatre sections: Competitors are to perform one piece from a musical or operetta in costume and character. Minimal props are optional, and competitors must demonstrate an appropriate level of stagecraft relevant to the chosen piece they are singing.

🌟 Golden Age Musical Theatre Ballad: Competitors are to perform one ballad from the Golden Age of Musical Theatre (pre-1965). Competitors do not need to be in character of costume for this section.
