Jewish Arts Quarter

Jewish Arts Quarter Welcome to the Jewish Arts Quarter, a vibrant new cultural destination in the heart of Elsternwick.

09/06/2026

Earlier this year, we took a camera to the In One Voice Festival and captured the vibrant Jewish cultural life already thriving in Elsternwick.
Music. Food. Art. Storytelling. Community.
Thousands of people came together to celebrate Jewish culture, creativity and connection, filling the streets with energy, colour and pride.
It’s moments like these that remind us why Jewish culture matters — and why creating a permanent home for it matters too.
JAQ will build on this thriving cultural ecosystem, creating a future home for Jewish arts, culture, learning and community life in Melbourne.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special. We look forward to seeing this spirit continue to grow in the future home of JAQ.

“Multiculturalism is about ensuring everyone is free to express themselves. That’s exactly what JAQ represents.” - Josh Burns MP

At a time when Jewish creatives and voices have too often faced exclusion and hostility, now is the time to invest in Jewish arts, culture and community.

JAQ will be a proud showcase of multiculturalism in the heart of Elsternwick - a future home for Jewish food, music, storytelling, performance, learning and connection.

Located alongside the Melbourne Holocaust Museum, JAQ is envisioned as a living cultural hub celebrating the stories, creativity and contributions of Australia’s Jewish community for generations to come.

Wumindjika. Shalom. Welcome.

This National Reconciliation Week, is hosting First Nations artist Robert Michael Young and author Colin Golvan for a powerful conversation exploring the meaning of “welcome” across First Nations and Jewish cultures.

Grounded on Bunurong Country — where Wumindjika means “welcome, come with purpose” — this special event invites audiences to reflect on belonging, Country and country, migration, culture, law, memory and identity through both Indigenous and Jewish perspectives.

Through creative, cultural and legal lenses, Robert and Colin will unpack ancient customs that continue to shape contemporary life today, while exploring the tensions, responsibilities and possibilities of welcome in Australia.

A look back at a special moment from the In One Voice Festival 2026. ✨🤩✨

In partnership with Business Victoria, JAQ was proud to host Minister Natalie Suleyman MP, government representatives and community members to mark an important milestone for the JAQ project.

Set against the backdrop of thousands celebrating Jewish culture, creativity and community in Selwyn Street, the event reflected the energy and cultural confidence already thriving in the future home of JAQ.

Thank you to Business Victoria, David Southwick MP and everyone who joined us as momentum continues to build toward bringing JAQ to life.

Leaning into our Jewishness right now isn’t just about identity - it’s about continuity. Jewish culture has always endured through creativity: stories, music, theatre, humour, poetry and art carried across generations, even in times of uncertainty. Jewish creativity has helped our community survive and stay connected for generations.

As Australian artist .lester.music says:“A Jewish arts home is a lifeline and a sanctuary…”

That’s why the Jewish Arts Quarter matters.
JAQ will create a permanent home for Jewish creativity, culture and community in Melbourne - ensuring Jewish stories, voices and culture continue to thrive for generations to come.

Our culture deserves a home. ✡️

Melbourne’s Jewish soundscape is bending in all the right ways.

Award-winning saxophonist Joshua Moshe is reworking Niggunim, jazz and global Jewish folk into something deeply spiritual + wildly contemporary.

From South African roots to Naarm stages, his music sits between memory and experimentation—ancient melodies stretched into new forms.

This is not just a gig. It’s a reimagining of Jewish sound.

🎷 Don’t sleep on it → book and you better be quick… only a handful of tickets left!

This Passover, we’re reminded that storytelling is at the heart of who we are.

Around the Seder table, we retell a story thousands of years old - each generation adding its own voice, perspective and creativity. It’s one of the earliest and most powerful acts of Jewish art: words, music, ritual and imagination coming together to keep a story alive.

Because art doesn’t just reflect freedom - it helps shape it.

As brilliant artist and Holocaust Survivor, Olga Horak OAM said, “I don’t live in the past, the past lives in me and the art was healing, whether I saw it that way or not. Art brought me back to the times when I first discovered the joy of creating… They were my diary when the words failed me. Over and over again, my art brought me the happiness that is hard to find in other aspects of one’s life.”

This Pesach, we celebrate the artists, storytellers and creatives who carry our stories forward and the community that makes space for them to be heard.

What a day 💫

The energy, colour and spirit of the In One Voice Festival was on full display on Sunday — a powerful celebration of Jewish creativity, community and cultural pride.

We were honoured to welcome Minister Natalie Suleyman, who joined thousands of festivalgoers in the heart of Melbourne’s Jewish cultural life to mark an important milestone for the Jewish Arts Quarter.

Announced in the place it will one day call home, this moment reflects something bigger than a future build — it captures a living, breathing cultural ecosystem already thriving on Selwyn Street.

With the Victorian Government’s support, the Jewish Arts Quarter is moving into its next phase of preparation and site readiness — a step forward in a much larger journey.

But projects like this are only made possible through community.

As we celebrate what already exists, we also look ahead — inviting philanthropic partners and supporters to help bring this once-in-a-generation cultural vision to life.

Thank you to Business Victoria for your partnership and to everyone who made Sunday so special. This is what cultural confidence looks like.
