A MEETING OF BODIES - opening Thursday at 6pm ✨
A Meeting Of Bodies by is a celebration of the human form and invites the viewer to take pause and seek moments of pleasure. The show touches on themes of identity, societal expectations and body empowerment. Inspired by the artist's experience of falling into hustle culture, unable to relax and feeling disconnected from her body. Rebuilding her sense of self by slowing down and prioritising pleasure through everyday habits.
Pleasure is often seen as a luxury or something that should be earnt. Rather than an essential part of being alive, vital to our sense of self and overall health. It allows us to pause and interact with the world and those around us. When was the last time you didn't feel time pass? Where you were fully in the moment and experiencing the world around you. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, being productive and keeping up with the pace of others. Sometimes you can forget that you even live in a body.
In some ways, this show is a love letter to our bodies. The power, freedom and vulnerability of the human form. The raw feeling of being alive and grateful for the body you have. My ultimate hope for this show is to allow a moment of peace in the busyness. A chance for self-reflection, maybe you'll look at your body through kinder eyes - like how you view the bodies of others. Seeing them for what they are and not what they aren't or should be. Slow down & be kind.

Don’t miss incredible debut solo exhibition ‘We’ll Go Back One Day’ opening Friday at 6pm.
Then drop in on Saturday for free Caribbean inspired paper making sessions with the one and only .paper between 12-4pm.
We’re doing something fun. Next Tuesday in the lead up to ‘Returning to Form’ .ch & .club.33 will be teaming up to bring you a cathartic workshop experience exploring the themes of creation and destruction, using stoneware clay. Participants will work on hand building an individual vessel, then intentionally destroy their works. Through engaging with Cass Lynch’s process of creating without expectations for a final form, participants are asked to examine their relationship to control and the creative process.
The collaborative result will become a sculptural piece featured in the exhibition opening on Thursday October 6th
-
Ticket includes wine and materials. Participants will not leave with tangible objects, all clay will be recycled and reused.

This body of work is a stepping stone into her discovery of her complexed Caribbean heritage on her mother’s side. From a young age, she was fascinated by the confidence portrayed from ‘people of colour’ (POC) and while she was exploring what it meant to be part Martiniquan, she was also navigating her own confidence and complexities with colourism. Having only visited Martinique once, her memory of the landscape and the people are blurred with what she sees in the media and other people mixed with Western Caribbean roots.
However layered being mixed of colour is, we all find ourselves looking at both ancestors and others who have similar appearances and cultural complexities for answers. Kmode’s body of work is a journey or rediscovering herself - through her mothers heritage - within her identity as a woman and person of colour. She is inspired particularly by the Western female with Caribbean heritage, exploring a range of hair textures and diverse skin tones. She finds her images and inspiration throughout fashion photography and media.
