Asanti Dance Theatre

Asanti Dance Theatre Asanti Dance Theatre, Australia's leading traditional and African contemporary performance company.

Asanti Dance Theatre is a highly rhythmic and dynamic dance ensemble. They perform with captivating power, precision and energy, presenting an unforgettable experience of West African music, dance and culture fused with the contemporary influences of Australia. They are internationally recognised as leaders in traditional, modern and Afro-contemporary dance choreography and performance, and are st

eadily making waves in the Australian dance scene. Asanti Dance Theatre was founded in 2002 by Artistic Director, Appiah Annan (Sidney Myer Creative fellow and internationally recognised dancer, choreographer and musician). The company was founded in Ghana as a way to promote ‘peace, tolerance and understanding’ through performance. Relocating to Australia in 2007, Annan’s creative vision changed with a new objective to stimulate interest in the exciting traditions of West African culture through dance. Using a combination of traditional performance practices of West Africa and contemporary Australian choreography, Annan looks to interpret a rich and unique culture through a fusion of modern discipline and raw rhythmic energy.

We’re so grateful to have been part of Harmony Week with Channel Nine – sharing rhythm, movement and stories that bring people closer and spark meaningful conversations around inclusion and diversity.

For us, rhythm is a universal language. It connects, uplifts and reminds us of the richness within our communities. 🇬🇭🪘🇦🇺

Thank you to Channel Nine for welcoming us into your beautiful space and for the opportunity to contribute to such an important week of reflection, connection and celebration.

Big thanks to Kofi Kunkpe, Aboubacar Djéliké Kouyate and Aboubacar Merveille Camara for bringing incredible energy and artistry to the performance.
