“A Bag of Rice Cannot Replace Good Governance” – NRM Chieftain Advocates Sustainable Empowerment for Nigerians

A chieftain of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Hon. Adekunle Ishola, popularly known as Ojuabere, has called on Nigerians to reject what he described as “temporary political handouts” and instead demand sustainable development, empowerment, and accountable leadership.

In a statement titled “A Bag of Rice Cannot Replace Good Governance,” Ishola expressed concern over recent videos showing citizens, particularly women, receiving bags of rice and other food items from members of the ruling party.

According to him, while food assistance may provide short-term relief, it is not a substitute for good governance and long-term economic empowerment.

“It is disheartening to watch our mothers celebrate the collection of bags of rice. While such support is appreciated, Nigerians deserve far more than seasonal handouts that often surface during election periods,” he said.

The NRM stalwart argued that the country's leadership should focus on creating sustainable opportunities through job creation, quality education, skills acquisition programmes, support for small businesses, and improved healthcare services.

“A bag of rice may feed a family for a few days, but empowerment can feed generations,” he stated, emphasizing the popular saying that teaching a person how to fish provides lifelong sustenance.

Ishola further stressed that democracy thrives when political parties are allowed to compete freely and citizens are empowered to make informed choices. He criticized politicians who neglect the people for years only to reappear during election seasons with food items and other inducements.

“The people deserve leaders who are present before elections, during elections, and after elections. Democracy is sweetest when all political parties are allowed to thrive and compete fairly,” he noted.

Highlighting some of Nigeria’s pressing challenges, Ishola cited unemployment, insecurity, poverty, drug abuse, a struggling healthcare sector, and the proliferation of counterfeit products as major concerns requiring urgent attention.

He particularly condemned the circulation of fake medications, describing it as a serious threat to public health.

“How can a country allow counterfeit drugs, including fake paracetamol, to find their way into the hands of citizens? This is unacceptable and dangerous,” he said.

The NRM chieftain also lamented a growing culture of dependency fueled by political patronage, urging Nigerians to demand accountability and development rather than settle for temporary relief materials.

“Our mothers should be working, running businesses, building their families, and contributing meaningfully to society—not moving from one political gathering to another in search of rice,” he added.

Ishola called for visionary, compassionate, and competent leadership capable of creating opportunities and improving the quality of life for citizens.

He concluded by expressing optimism about the future, saying that the younger generation deserves a nation where hard work is rewarded, opportunities are accessible, and every citizen can live with dignity.

“Nigeria deserves better,” he declared.

The statement was signed by Hon. Adekunle Ishola (Ojuabere) of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) under the banner of Idera De 2027.

This page serves as my virtual office, a place where I connect directly with my people, listen to your concerns, read your suggestions, and understand the issues that matter most to you. Every comment matters, every message is valued, and every contribution is appreciated.

MY VOTE IS NOT FOR SALE: WHY I STAND WITH HON. ADEKUNLE ISHOLA OJUABERE AND REJECT CASH-AND-CARRY POLITICS

By Kazeem Bamidele

Democracy flourishes when citizens make electoral decisions based on conviction, competence, performance, and the future they envision for their communities—not on temporary inducements or political pressure. As another election cycle approaches, every voter has a duty to carefully evaluate leadership and support candidates who demonstrate a genuine commitment to public service.

For me, that choice is clear. My support remains with Hon. Adekunle Ishola OJUABERE. It is a decision rooted in principle, continuity, and the belief that sustainable development requires consistent leadership and long-term planning. My vote is not for sale. It cannot be exchanged for cash, gifts, or election-season promises.

One of the greatest challenges confronting democracy is the practice of vote-buying. When elections become financial transactions rather than opportunities for citizens to choose capable leaders, the people ultimately bear the consequences. While monetary inducements may provide temporary relief, they often result in years of poor governance, weak accountability, and abandoned promises.
Voters must therefore look beyond campaign handouts and focus on substance. Leadership should be measured by tangible achievements, vision, integrity, and the ability to improve the lives of the people. Roads, quality education, healthcare services, youth empowerment, economic opportunities, and community development remain the true indicators of effective governance.

Supporting Hon. Adekunle Ishola OJUABERE is not simply about supporting an individual; it is about supporting continuity, stability, and a development-oriented agenda. Meaningful progress takes time, dedication, and consistency.
Development projects cannot achieve their full potential if they are constantly disrupted by political instability or short-term interests.

As citizens, we must remember that our votes are powerful tools for shaping the future of our communities. A vote should never be influenced by temporary benefits that disappear within days or weeks. The impact of electing the right—or wrong—leaders can last for years.

The future of Ibadan North West/South West deserves thoughtful leadership, responsible governance, and leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people above personal ambition. Every voter should exercise their democratic right with wisdom, conscience, and a clear vision for the future.

My position remains unchanged. My vote is not for sale. It is reserved for leadership that demonstrates commitment to progress, accountability, and the development of our constituency.

As we approach 2027, I encourage all eligible voters to participate actively in the democratic process, reject vote-buying, and make choices based on issues, character, and competence. Together, we can strengthen our democracy and secure a brighter future for Ibadan North West/South West.

God bless OJUABERE.

God bless the people of Ibadan North West/South West.

🐝 NRM! Rescue!
Idera De!
Ishola De!

Hon. Adekunle Ishola (Ojuabere) is on a mission to rescue, rebuild, and restore hope to our people.

The time has come for Nigerians to vote wisely. Let us stop voting blindly for political parties and start voting for credible individuals with vision, integrity, competence, and a genuine passion for service. A political party does not develop a nation, people with the right character and commitment do.

Nigeria is blessed with many political parties, giving citizens the freedom to choose leaders based on merit rather than party loyalty. If a leader truly believes in serving the people, there should be no need to hide behind the influence of a ruling party or political godfathers.

Enough of politics driven by personal interests. Enough of leaders who seek power only to enrich themselves while the people continue to suffer. It is time to reject godfatherism, embrace accountability, and support leaders who are ready to work for the common good.

Nigeria can rise again. We do not need war or division to renew our nation. We need responsible leadership, active citizens, and a collective determination to build a better future for generations to come.

The change we desire will not come by chance, it will come through the choices we make.

The time for change is now.
The time to rescue Nigeria is now.
The time to move our nation forward is now.

😭💔 Nigerians, Please Come to My Rescue! 🙏

I was one of the people who received ₦100,000 from that viral giveaway on Friday.
At first, I thought it was just cruise. When they asked for account numbers, I dropped mine for fun and never imagined they would actually send me money. 😭
Now wahala has landed!
This morning, I received an email demanding ₦100 million in return. 😳💔
My people, where am I supposed to get ₦100 million from? The ₦100k has not even lasted 48 hours. 😭
I was only trying my luck, not signing a lifetime contract of debt. 😭😂
If anything happens to me, please tell them that "Eleribu Omo Ole Oni Giveaway" was not worth this stress. 💔😭

Why is the wife covering her face? Madam be proud of your candidate with full chest nah. 😄😄😄😄

An honest conversation. Sometimes friendship is about telling people the truth, even when it is uncomfortable.
Lege Miami listened, reflected, and apologized. He acknowledged the hardship Nigerians are facing and stated that he has raised concerns privately. While he may not publicly criticize the government, he made it clear that he hears the frustrations of the people and will reduce his political promotions.
Whether you agree with him or not, dialogue, accountability, and listening to the people are important. Nigerians are not asking for perfection, they are asking for leadership that understands their pain and works towards solutions.
Watch and share your thoughts respectfully.

IKOYI BIG BOY, LARRY HOOVER SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN THE UK FOR MURDER

Fawaz Abdulkareem, 36, fatally stabbed Daniel Manuel, 32, at his flat on Bondway following an argument over a debt he owed.

Met detectives quickly identified him as the murderer - arresting him at the scene and charging him the following day.

They saw through Abdulkareem’s claims that he had acted in self-defence and found the murder weapon after he had tried to dispose of it - throwing it from the window of the 14th floor flat.

Abdulkareem, 36 (2nd pic), of Bondway, Southwark, was unanimously convicted of murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, 21 May. He was sentenced to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 17 years on Friday, 5 June.

Zulal, Daniel’s wife, said: “Daniel was not just my husband, he was my partner, my home, my emotional safety and the person I built my entire life around.

“Losing him in such a violent and sudden way has completely shattered my world.

“This loss has affected every part of my life, emotionally, physically, financially and I am still trying to survive the aftermath of it.”

Daniel was found with three stab wounds in the lobby of the block of flats where Abdulkareem lived on Saturday, 5 July 2025.

Police were called at 05.38hrs and officers arrived within six minutes, performing emergency first aid. But despite their best efforts and the work of doctors and paramedics he died at the scene.

Daniel and Abdulkareem had spent the evening at a nightclub, returning with a group of friends to Abdulkareem’s flat in the early hours of the morning. It was following an argument about money that Daniel was suddenly stabbed three times with a kitchen knife.

Following the attack, Abdulkareem left the flat with the knife still in the waistband of his trousers, taking his t-shirt off and using it to disguise the weapon when he reported Daniel’s injuries to staff in the communal lobby.

When Abdulkareem realised emergency services were on their way, he tried to dispose of the blade out of the window.

But one of the responding officers noticed Daniel’s blood on his clothing - arresting him at the scene
