Thinking about getting back on Instagram after a nearly 2 year hiatus. I haven’t missed it, but I popped on to look at my account in an idle moment today, and wondered at all the work I have done. I have been busy with a Proper Grown Up Job, and not making anything. I’m itchy. Thinking if I return - it might help me get back to the making? Also, Happy New Year 🥰🥂

I had an idea that the sticky note diary would be a simple way to make Instagram fun again, but after only two days I’m already feeling the sense of obligation, the ‘should’. I always have in the back of my mind - ‘oooh what clever thing could I put on my sticky note next?’. I need a clean break for a while - from the shouty noise, the advertising, the FOMO, the checking for likes and comments (yes,still!), the living in the world of what to post next.

So I’m taking myself off on a digital sabbatical, an artist’s retreat of my own devising. I will still be checking DMs, if only for the cat video spam my lovely mum sends me, so please feel free to stay in contact there, but do expect slow replies. Email also welcome, [email protected]. This week I have closed .larke, and have all the feels that come when you come to the end of something that you’ve put a lot of yourself into. A type of grief, really. I’ve had the most gorgeous messages from people saying lovely things about my work, both arty and sneakery, and generous words of encouragement, buoying me during these down days. I thank you all ❤️❤️❤️. Then I pop in for a Sunday arvo Insta scroll and find this from . Lib, you have always been one of my staunchest supporters, right from the beginning of I feel quite undeserving, and I thank you with all my heart!

Starting with seeds. The beautiful things about seeds - firstly, they already contain all the information needed to become what they need to become, and secondly they won’t germinate until the environmental conditions for their spouting are met - they need to be given a signal to sleepily unfurl from their dormancy.

I know I promised a pop-up shop first week of the month, and I guess this is it for October (and not just for a week!). : sneak peek! When I was about seven years old I had a calico tote bag that I used for my library books. Printed on it was a picture of a ladybug and words that said ‘Don’t bug me, I’m a lady!’. I didn’t turn out to be much of a lady when I grew up, but here is my take on ladybugs for a new collection I’m working on. Freaking adorable (even if I do say so myself…which a proper lady certainly wouldn’t!) 😘 stay tuned…
