It has been one hell of Journey- Dennis

Growing up in good old Maryborough Kaye and Dennis found one another. Dennis had an eye on Kaye for quite some time.
But it wasn’t until Kaye made the first move at Kaye’s sisters wedding!

She knew Dennis was at the cinemas around the corner and quickly ducked out of the wedding to meet him. Kaye’s father said “he better be worth it.”

They then went on their hot date the next day on the 29th October 1966. You really could say the rest is history! They have two children, 1 daughter and 1 son.

Dennis and Kaye owned a local business Bearing Service center in 1981 “the Ball bearing Bird”. Bearings became a well known business in the Fraser coast community.

I asked them what they believe was their secret to staying together for 60 years and married for 57 was. Dennis said - Patience and Kaye said work hard and working together. Michelle, Daughter asked, “you aren’t going to be that couple that you didn’t fight?” Gosh no - Kaye replied.

Challenges come across in every relationship, but
in August 2024 Dennis was diagnosed with MND- Motor Neuron Disease. This is a rare, progressive neurological condition where the motor nerves in the brain and spinal cord gradually damage and shut down. The only way to diagnose is to eliminate everything else.

Dennis’ earliest symptoms was fishing with the grandkids and he was unable to tie his fishing Knots. Though only being diagnosed in 2024 they believe symptoms and signs were there earlier.

They have spent years traveling to K’gari (Fraser Island) on numerous fishing and camping adventures. Kaye would read a book and make the coffee while Dennis would fish! Opposites really do attract! Kaye’s Grandfather was the Middle Bluff lighthouse keeper at Woody Island for many years.

Through the hard times they have worked together, shown love and still laugh through it all. Dennis, through his diagnosis is still his cheeky self, laughing and reminiscing through strories. Dennis has said he’s had one hell of journey!

Thank you for allowing me to come into your home and capture a small glimpse into your life. I agree with Dennis, it’s been one hell of journey. But your love is something that will be remembered through your families.

My mate driving the car was keen too and i thought gees if he gets her i’ll be disappointed! ~ Bill

At 16 and 17 years old Bill and Lois found true ever lasting love, in a little old country town just out side of Ballarat Victoria.

They knew each other from school but really locked eyes at the dance hall where they spent years after dancing all types of dances from ballroom to foxtrot. “The balls were fantastic, even rocking up in jeans and t- shirt to only realise it was a debutant ball”- Lois

Bill knew he had something good, Lois wouldn’t get in the car but was determined she was going to be his.

They went on to have two beautiful daughters Vicki and Sharryn, 5 grand children and 10 great children.

They spent May through to September in Hervey Bay away from the cold weather and continued to travel and adventure.

I asked them what they feel is their secret to a love like theirs.
Lois said, “ We shared everything and we never kept any secrets”
Every night we would sit down and talk about our day. Being good communicators.

Their love was felt all through the room and left me smiling. Bill and Lois knew at a young age they were meant for each other and knew it was something special.
