On Friday 5 June, senior Visual Arts students from Maryborough State High School and Aldridge State High School had the opportunity to participate in the judging process for the Annual Art Competition at Gatakers Artspace.

Students worked alongside guest judge Kevin Wilson (Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre) and local artist and teacher Shanay Manitzky gaining valuable insight into the assessment of artworks.

Workshop Highlights | Mother's Day

On Mother's Day participants enjoyed glazing their own bisque-fired teacup and saucer set, adding personal touches before each piece was placed in the kiln.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a lovely morning of creativity celebrating Motherโ€™s Day.

At One With | Helen Aland

This piece included in exhibition 'A Shift in the Paddock' is significant to artist Helen Aland as it represents the peace she felt sitting in the paddock and the first piece that connected how Helen would like to see man in nature.ย  Wildlife that we can bond with and it can feel comfortable enough with us to relax and nest upon us.ย  The pallet is intentionally muted to express calm.

A timeless favourite | The Daly Waters Pub

This watercolour work by local artist Kevin Rogers captures the pub as it stood in the 1950s, a place long on his bucket list.

In 2009, during their third lap of Australia, Kevin finally made the visit. What was meant to be a two hour stop turned into an eight year stay. Discover more of this story via the following link; https://bit.ly/a_timeless_favourite

This artwork is part of the current exhibition 'In A Different Light โ€“ The Water Colours' on display at Gatakers Artspace.

๐Ÿ“…This exhibition closes 2pm, this Saturday, 30 May 2026.

Maheno Charcoal Wreck | Kerri Dixon

This triptych is part of the current exhibition, Colours of Kโ€™gari โ€“ A Natural Palette by local artist Kerri Dixon, currently on show at Gatakers Artspace. It was inspired by Kerri's long connection to Kโ€™gari and the Maheno wreck, which she has been visiting for over 40 years.

These three separate reference images naturally came together as one composition. It's not the full Maheno, but Kerri felt it reflected the slow disintegration of the wreck over time under the harsh coastal conditions of the wind, salt and shifting sand.

Kerri remembers being able to walk all over the wreck as a child, where as today large sections are unsafe and inaccessible due to corrosion and sharp exposed edges.

Using charcoal felt important for this piece. Without colour, the focus shifts entirely to texture, structure, light and decay.

This exhibition will close this Saturday, 30 May, 2026 at 2pm.
