Meeras is an interactive artwork dedicated to Rohingya stories and their current experience of living in statelessness.
Handcrafted from bamboo thanks to the expertise of Lucid Space Design , colourful steel and woven ropework, Meeras took the form of 16 towering taro leaves, embedded with interactive lights and sound.
As audiences step into the space, they can trigger light animations and unlock soundscapes made of field recordings captured during the making of Meeras in Sydney and Bangladesh.
This artwork is a symbol of resilience and existence, and was made possible through a collaboration with Creative Advocacy Partnership; co-designed alongside Rohingya communities in Sydney, Kuala Lumpur and Kutupalong refugee camp.
Meeras was first shown at Customs House through City of Sydney Art & About.
