Sydney Forró Dance Brazilian Dance Classes in Sydney! Forró is a music and dance style originally from northeastern Brazil.

Join us and have fun.

🗓 Classes every Tuesday from 6:00pm to 7:20pm
🎉 Social dance from 7:20pm to 8:40pm

🤗 Newcomers always welcome! As a dance style, Forró has influences from European ballroom dances and more recently from Caribbean dances. "Forró music has been described as “a mixture of ska with polka in overdrive”. Although there are numerous variants of the dance,

the basic steps involve a couple dancing very close together. The lead’s left hand holds the follower’s right hand as in a waltz, with the lead’s right arm around the follower’s back and the follower’s left arm around the lead’s neck. Beyond these fundamentals, moves such as spins, fancy heel flourishes, and lifting the partner to sit on one's knee entered through the influence of salsa and other Caribbean dances. Still other styles may have partners, called forrozeiro/forrozeiras, slightly or much farther away from each other while dancing. This project wants to bring the vibrant energy of Brazilian Forró dance to Sydney. Besides dance classes, the students also will learn about Brazilian culture and social characteristics. We’d like to let the Forró community grow at its own pace. To achieve that, we will volunteer as teachers letting students learn for free.

It's National Volunteer Week this week!

For those who don't know, Sydney Forró Dance is a completely volunteer run organisation with dedicated people teaching, supporting and organising weekly Tuesday classes and socials over these past 11 years.

To give perspective, the classes run most weeks of the year which means these guys are dedicating almost 1/7th of their year to keep this running.

Please continue to bring those who are looking to find rhythm, learn how to dance or be a part of a really great community so we keep on growing.

Let's give some love to all the dedicated members of the community for all help big and small 💕

Over the space of 1 week we had 9 workshops run by these amazing people for the 2026 Sydney Forró Festival

We dove into roots and added extra variety and fun to our dancing. Every class was insightful and just pure enjoyment.

The talented Ricardo Bona from Brisbane will be performing TOMORROW night during our final party.

It was only last week we had the joy of attending the and because of our partnership with them, we were able to invite the instructors down here to Sydney to make this Festival come to life!
