Come hang! We’ll be gathering at the wonderful Hopsters Co-op Brewery for our June meetup.

Spend the evening with artists, makers, and creative minds from across the community. Bring your latest project, a new idea you’re excited about, or simply come along for good conversations and fresh inspiration. Everyone is welcome, whether you’ve been part of the community for years or you’re joining us for the first time.

This month, Hopsters Artist-in-Residence Smith will be sharing insights into their residency and artistic practice.

📅 Tuesday 16 June

Join us and .gallery for a group exhibition exploring where Art meets Maths: What happens when logic collapses? When systems fail, paradox takes over, and the impossible becomes a starting point?

𝘿𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙗𝙮 𝙕𝙚𝙧𝙤 invites artists and audiences into the space between structure and chaos, where mathematics, imagination, experimentation, and uncertainty collide.

Part of the annual 𝙒𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙄𝙩 𝙊𝙪𝙩 exhibition series, this year’s theme embraces disruption, contradiction, and the beauty of unanswered questions. Featuring works across diverse mediums, the exhibition celebrates creative risk-taking and cross-disciplinary play.

Born from the ongoing collaboration between 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙒𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 and 𝙎𝙮𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙂𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙮, and curated by 𝙎𝙖𝙧𝙖 𝘽𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙚𝙧, the show reflects the spirit of the Inner West: community, curiosity, and creative exchange.

Continuing in our partnership with Hopsters Cooperative Brewery, the IWCN are thrilled to present new work by Tim Anastasi as part of our Artist in Residence series.

The photographic series entitled ‘Traditions and Other Fantasies’ explore the fantasy of the exotic through deliberate over-performance. Cultural symbols are worn, stretched, and allowed to drift from their familiar meanings. With their steady gaze, the subjects meet the viewer directly, inviting us to question what we take for granted about tradition, desire, and who gets to look.

Tim Anastasi discovered film at an early age, growing up in Sydney’s multicultural Inner West. He holds degrees in Media and Culture and Fine Arts, and his practice explores what shapes a culture, examining the traditions, symbols, and fantasies that define it. His work spans photography, film, and mixed media, including feature films, and has been exhibited at major photography festivals such as Head On. His work is often personal in nature, his work evokes human emotion while engaging with broader cultural discourse, examining how culture, story, and imagination shape the way we see the world and each other. Tim also owns and runs Luna Studio Art Gallery in Newtown

What happens when art is treated as an industry rather than a public good? If we reduce our creative practices only to monetry value, do we miss the point of their worth to society?

The Living Room Theatre in association with Gleebooks and the Inner West Creative Network present a keynote address from author and global expert on cultural policy, Justin O'Connor.

Drawing on his book Culture is Not an Industry: Reclaiming Art and Culture for the Common Good (2024) he reframes the public good not as a number, but as a space where we understand ourselves, recognise each other, and imagine change.

Join us on Thurs Feb 26, 6-7:30pm for this essential address and discussion and secure a ticket via the link in bio
