Arts Margaret River Arts Margaret River is the premier arts and culture provider in the Margaret River Region.

Arts Margaret River is a not-for-profit cultural community organisation. As the major arts umbrella organisation in the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River for more than four decades we aim to involve all members of the community in all forms of the arts. Our aim is achieved through a variety of programs: music of all forms, theatre and dance performances, visual art exhibitions and events, workshops, community celebrations including free outdoor concerts and activities and the largest regional Readers and Writers Festival in WA. Over the years Arts Margaret River has grown to a quality professional arts organisation offering events which are the envy of many small and indeed larger communities. The Piano Tuner is a documentary set in Tasmania and the Northern Territory that follows an eccentric piano tuner determined to save both pianos and his way of life.

Travelling across the Australian continent, we discover domestic piano culture that thrives in some of the country’s most piano-hostile places, where people play well or badly, but always with passion. Along the way, we learn that listening to music, to place, and to one another can be just as important as tuning the instrument itself.

The effects of colonialism have played an intrinsic part in the musical culture of the Caribbean. They are a synthesis of African, European, Indian and indigenous influences. Each island has its own complex rhythm patterns and styles. Find out about the origins of calypso on Saint Kitts, jwé on Saint Lucia and much, much more in this lighthearted insight lecture full of the sounds of the Caribbean.

Dr Graham Jones was a musician in the British Army for 40 years retiring as the Senior Director of Music, Household Division and Director of Music, Coldstream Guards – a position unequalled throughout military music in Great Britain. Graham was made a Member of the British Empire by Her Majesty the Queen for outstanding service to military music in 1993. Graham is enjoying a second career as a guest conductor, adjudicator, guest speaker, lecturer, clinician, recording consultant and educator.

Glow Dance Workshops proudly presents its 4th Annual Kids Glow Show — our biggest concerts in Glow history!

Featuring over 200 performers aged 3–17, this spectacular all-ages celebration showcases the incredible talent, creativity and dedication of our Glow dancers. Audiences will be treated to an energetic mix of jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, musical theatre and acrobatics, with dancers from our youngest beginners through to our senior performers taking to the stage.

More than just a dance concert, the Glow Show is a celebration of the confidence, friendships, individuality and joy that dance brings to children and young people. Every performer has the opportunity to shine, with routines designed to showcase their unique personalities, hard work and love of performing.

Fire Within is a powerful celebration of women, dance and community.

This collaborative showcase celebrates the women throughout history who dared to break barriers and help shape a better future. It explores themes of courage, resilience and the challenges and beauty that come with being a woman.

More than a showcase, Fire Within celebrates the growing adult dance community across the South West — proving that it is never too late to dance, perform, challenge yourself and discover your own fire within. Together we showcase dancers of all ages and experience levels for an inspiring, fun and entertaining evening. History and heritage buffs will be delighted with the theme of ‘Underground’ for this years Southwest Heritage Festival.

Take a deep dive into Wadandi culture with traditional custodian Zac Webb and archeologist Joe Dortch in conversation around Devils Lair and other speleological treasures. Bill Bunbury will host a panel of leading lights in the agricultural industry exploring the history of this region, from dairy to viticulture, and what makes it all work – the soil and the land. The Heritage Skills Association with Yolanda Cool at the helm will take us into the history of building skills in the area and conversations with community in caring for these places, with stonemason Bec Wiley providing a demonstration and workshop.

Doors will open at 10.30 am for a cup of tea and to get settled, with Zac Webb welcoming us all at 11 am. A light lunch will be provided. This is a free community event but booking is essential.
