Impro Workshops & Courses for Beginners

We offer an entry-level improvisational theatre course tailored for Beginners, which is also great for past improvisors who wish to refresh or up-skill themselves. Graduates from our course, and experienced improvisors are also invited to our monthly free jams held in a central Cairns park. Boost your confidence, Improve your social skills and exercise your

imagination in a supportive environment! Learn the basics of improvisational theatre (or improv/impro, also known as theatre sports) through fun games and short scenes (mostly in front of your classmates). No prior experience necessary, just an open mind and willingness to try something new. Hosted by Gregory Barnes, impro-trained in Perth thru Curtin Uni Theatre Arts Dept and Canberra’s ImproACT, and Mike Palmier, trained with Impro Melbourne. 🎭 Impro Cairns Term 2 is underway… and you can still jump in!

Our free intro classes last week were a huge success, and as a gesture of goodwill we’re opening the door a little wider:

👉 All new students can try their first class FREE (up to and including Week 2)

Impro Beginners: New Horizons (BNH)
🕕 6:00–7:15pm
Perfect for complete beginners + recent grads wanting to build confidence, creativity and stage skills

Music Impro (MI)
🕢 7:45–9:15pm
For past improv students ready to explore rhythm, rhyme, melody and spontaneous song creation 🎶

📍 Cominos House, Edge Hill

📅 Week 1: Thursday 23 April
📅 Week 2: Wednesday 29 April (only Wednesday class)
➡️ Then back to Thursdays from May 7 – June 18

⚠️ Last chance to join as a new student: Wed 29 April
After that, classes are closed to new beginners for the term.

Steve Biddulph inspired my growth and transformation from a dysfunctional twenty-something male into the more-integrated adult male I am today.

His teachings formed a solid base for my humanity, humility and humour. And his wisdom and patience are equally enlightening and infectious.

Life takes time. Humans do too. Be gentle on yourself during your Improv-training journey. We’re learning new skills, new ways of thinking and new ways of communicating.

Some of us will become performers and teachers too! Which takes us into the limelight.
