It’s 1939, and in a little house on York Street, Coorparoo, the Murran family are getting on with life - arguing, laughing, falling in love and occasionally taking on the establishment!

As war changes the world around them, sharp-witted Sonya finds herself navigating class, injustice, family, romance and a rather handsome young law student from the “other side of the street.”

Based on real people from playwright James John Loftus’ family, York Street is a funny, warm and very local story about ordinary people who refuse to stay quiet.

❓ Have you thought about getting involved in theatre but felt you don’t know how to start?

👀 We are looking for a person to play the role of Joe Murran in our latest play, York Street which will be performed from 14 November to 29 November.

👱‍♂️ Joe is the father of the main character, Sonya and her sister Cecily. A strong man, he is dedicated to his family and marriage.

⛪️ He is a trade unionist, passionate and politically engaged. He respects his wife’s Catholic faith and values but is not above a joke at the Church’s expense.

Today the cast gathered for their first meet and greet and read through and we are very excited to see where this goes!

Thanks to these awesome people for bringing Jim Loftus’ story to life.
