Humanity and Nature

What does it mean to belong to nature rather than simply observe it?

For more than a decade, Tamara Dean has created photographs that explore the fragile relationship between humans and the natural world. Moving beyond her beginnings as a photojournalist, Dean's practice invites us into immersive environments where bodies, landscapes and ecosystems become deeply interconnected.

Through photography, installation, moving image and scent, Leave only footprints consider our place within nature and the responsibility that comes with it.
Experience the first major survey exhibition of an acclaimed contemporary photomedia artist.

The Collection Through a New Lens

What can an art collection tell us about the night sky?

Night Sky brings together works from the Manly Art Gallery & Museum collection that explore darkness, illumination, atmosphere and our relationship to the world after sunset. Spanning different periods and artistic approaches, the exhibition reveals how artists have long been inspired by the mystery, beauty and significance of the night.

Presented as part of the Collective for Environmental Art & Design (CEAD) program, Night Sky offers a fresh perspective on the collection, connecting historical and contemporary works to conversations about our changing environment.

Protecting the Night

As our cities grow brighter, truly dark skies are becoming increasingly rare.

Presented as part of the Collective for Environmental Art & Design (CEAD) program, Night Sky explores the cultural, ecological and emotional significance of darkness. Drawing on works from the MAG&M Collection, the exhibition invites us to reflect on our connection to the night and the impact of light pollution on both people and ecosystems.

Through art, Night Sky encourages us to look up, slow down and consider what might be lost when the stars disappear from view.

Min Wong in conversation

Join artist Min Wong in conversation with MAG&M Senior Curator Katherine Roberts for an in-depth discussion about Min’s exhibition You shall definitely pass which explores care, ritual, transformation, and the politics of embodied space.

Drawing on research into collective care practices, mutual aid networks, and the sauna as a site of resistance and connection, Min Wong's work invites us to consider new forms of intimacy and solidarity in a fractured world.

We look forward to a conversation exploring the ideas, experiences, and processes behind this ambitious project.

Salt. Crystal. Ritual.

Artist Min Wong installing works for You shall definitely pass at MAG&M ahead of Friday night's opening.

The salt bricks and crystals act as a prelude to a larger installation currently en route from Europe, introducing themes of care, transformation, vulnerability and collective resilience.

A quiet beginning to a work that asks how we find connection and solidarity in uncertain times.

Opening next Friday ⭐ Min Wong: You shall definitely pass, unfolding in 2 iterations.

Due to international shipping delays, the exhibition will present You shall defiantly pass, a series of banner works developed during Wong’s recent residency in Athens. Drawing on research into collective care, mutual aid and restorative justice, the works explore compassion, solidarity and ritual as forms of resilience and transformation.

As works produced during Wong’s 2025 Berlin residency arrive from Europe, the exhibition will evolve into the full installation of You shall definitely pass.
