Bábbarra Women’s Centre is looking for a Studio & Projects Officer to join our team in Maningrida, West Arnhem Land.

This is a hands-on role working alongside local artists across screen printing, lino printing, studio projects, exhibitions, retail, social media and community projects.

If you’re passionate about arts, culture, community and supporting women’s creative practice, we’d love to hear from you!

(past - present - future) is a tribute to the generations of Bábbarra women and the intergenerational mentoring that has sustained Babbarra and its legacy for almost 40 years.

Pictured here are Noni Eather and Lekaiya Rabbit, daughter and granddaughter of Bábbarra Women’s Centre founder, Njabulanj Helen Djimbarrwala Williams.

Helen was a powerful and determined leader who was deeply passionate about empowering Indigenous people through self-determination. As part of the founding team of Bábbarra in the mid-1980s, she fought to create a safe, culturally respectful space for Maningrida women during a time when community life was heavily shaped by patriarchal structures.

Capturing Noni and Lekaiya at Helen’s home, known locally as “Number 5”, was a special moment that honoured the generations of Bábbarra women who came before them, and the way their legacy continues through the women who follow in their footsteps.

Welcome Lisa, Babbarra’s new art centre manager joining us from Aotearoa, New Zealand where she has had a career in commercial galleries and local government. Lisa will lead the team and support the vision of the senior Babbarra women into the future. Working closely with the wonderful Ziian,, Lisa will provide more amazing opportunities for women creatives in Maningrida.

What remains unchanged is what matters most: knowledge is passed from senior to emerging artists along with the cultural authority to print.
