A group of 200+ with the singular aim of promoting the love and appreciation of Calligraphy through regular meetings, workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and a winter conference, Summer School in Winter (SSIW). Thanks to Margaret McIntyre, Howard Wallace and Vin Egan for the following potted history of the CSV. On 13th August 1981 the inaugural meeting of the “Society “ was held with 9 enthusi

astic members attending all with one aim - to promote the love and appreciation of Calligraphy. In 1985 the Society was officially established. A competition for the design of a logo was announced and the title “Postscript” was agreed upon for the regular news letter and is still used today for the six glossy issues a year that is sent to all financial members. The very first meetings were held in the Melbourne College of Decorative Arts then moved to the Meat Market, In North Melbourne until its closure. West Hall , St Mary’s College, University of Melbourne was our next home until 13th January 2010 when the move was made to our present home, the College of Theology and Ministry, Parkville. From small beginnings the Society increased to around 400 members. Today we have around 200 members throughout Victoria, interstate, NZ and overseas. In July 2000 the Society organized the first Summer School in Winter (SSIW) calligraphy conference and has been a regular event ever since attracting both local and international tutors and is the largest Calligraphy conference of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
