🎄 MEET THE DIRECTORS - BEN KLEIN AND CATHERINE BATES🎄

Rehearsals have already started for our next production, A G&S Christmas Carol. This is the Australian premiere of this playful adaptation of Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol using favourite music from the Gilbert & Sullivan operas, and clever new lyrics from Gayden Wren.

Ben has been a long-time member of GSOV working on and off the stage (including as stage manager, props manager and assistant director). He directed Comedy and Tragedy for our 2024 season’s A Festival of WS Gilbert Plays and Bystander for CGTC’s First Curtain Festival.

Catherine joined GSOV for last year’s production of The Mikado and has been invaluable as a chorus master. She comes with a wealth of experience conducting bands; this production is her first as MD for GSOV.

✍🏻 OPPORTUNITY FOR PAID WORK AS A WRITER

Ella Chedra is establishing ‘Inside the Story’ (working title), an immersive storytelling company, where guests are offered the experience of stepping inside a story. The concept invites guests to navigate the story through their own choices and interactions with characters. How the story ends, well that’ll be up to the guests.

Ella is currently seeking a writer for their first 60 to 90-minute show. Experience or understanding of responsive, interactive or immersive theatre would be highly valued.

💃🏻 ‘Move and Perform with Confidence’: FREE workshops designed especially for actors who may have limited movement experience - open to adults (18+) with no upper age limit, welcoming of all abilities.

Michele McNamara is a student researcher at Monash University with a background in drama, dance, and amateur/community and independent theatre. She is completing her PhD, exploring ways that amateur/community actors can develop physical and expressive confidence on stage. As part of this process, she is conducting short workshops in October.

This is an invitation to a screening of a captured live performance of Malvern NEXT GEN’s highly successful production of ‘The Breadbox’ from earlier in the year.
