As President of the Maldon Easter Fair Committee I write to Thank and acknowledge our people of Maldon, what a great Easter in our wonderful town, Thank you Maldon for again supporting the fair and enabling it to continue as the best and oldest continuious Easter Fair in Australia.
From our small committee and the volunteers that put up their hand to help out over the Easter week, doing even the smallest jobs that sometimes go unnoticed, to the larger tasks of setting up the lights in the street and up on the tower, I know we all do appreciate your time in doing these things for our community.
What an amazing crowd on Monday that turned out to watch and participate in our 149th Parade and we hope this can continue for many years in its current format, especially next year for our 150th.
My thanks to you all including West Traffic who did an amazing job dealing with Vicroads and our shire in sorting out the traffic control for the parade and well beyond.
Some of our events have had challenges, but we are committed to keeping our Easter Fair an event to be proud of, from the Scone Bake, The Good Friday Beehive Service, The Footy and Netball games, the Huge Easter Market at the Beehive and with Sunday Raceya Day now a part of the program, another huge success and my thanks to the Lang family for all they do to make this happen each year, Dancing in the Street (3500 people Dancing and having fun). The great Maldon Vintage Machinery & Museum Display of old vehicles that toured the town all weekend, The Maldon Golf Club and our 149th Parade that was enjoyed by a huge crowd of around 7,800 people to grace our streets of Maldon.
I believe that the Easter week would have to be the most beneficial weeks for business trading in Maldon. Our committee is very proud of the fact that through our endeavours, we make every effort to keep the Tourist dollars in our community, by providing free events for everyone to enjoy while supporting our local traders.
It is also wonderful to see so many community groups working with our Easter committee to put on events and do fundraising for themselves over the Easter weekend. These include and I thank, The Maldon Brass Band, Maldon Vintage Machinery & Museum, Maldon Football Netball Club, The Maldon Masonic Lodge, Castlemaine’s Highland Pipe Band. Maldon & District Fire Brigades’, The Maldon Churches, Maldon Golf Club, along with those many individuals that help out before, during and after our events. What great community spirit we have and are so proud of in Maldon.
The Maldon Vintage Machinery & Museum hosted their annual Engine Rally, the Churches combined to work as one to host the Beehive Chimney Good Friday Service, The Maldon Football Netball Club hosted their Good Friday Games with some great wins to start the season and many other local community groups participated in the parade and many other of our events.
I would like to acknowledge the great effort by Daniel Clarke and the Maldon Brass Band who enjoy playing at our events and entertaining us all, The annual Brass Band Concert was a great success at the Maldon Hotel and wasn’t it great to see the younger members of the band marching in the parades. The Band is always looking for new players, both young and older.
Hopefully our 149th Easter Fair will be again a great time for us all who love Maldon
Our Committee is now also planning our 150th celebrations in 2027. We are looking at a back to Maldon Easter week of celebrations with a lot of local tradition. More about this to follow…

Including bringing back the spinning wheels and having some great history on display on the lead uo to next Easter and during the Easter week (More on this in the next few months).
Maldon is a Resilient Community and It is so good for such a small community to be batting well above its average not only at Easter, but with events throughout the year.
Also to David Skinner for his great music over the last 29 years for our Dancing in the Street, Next year will be his 30th year and sadly he is planning to retire after that.
The Maldon Easter Fair would like to thank a very special young lad from our little community, Zavier Turner whom at the very last minute was happy to step in and help with a very special appearance from the Easter Bunny.
To my committee and their families, you all have done such an amazing job.. THANK YOU ALL
So well done Maldon.. take a bow and be so very proud of yourselves.
Maldon Easter Fair President, Peter Thompson.

Did you know 2026 is Maldon’s 60th anniversary as the first notable town!
Maldon was declared the country's first "Notable Town" by the National Trust in 1965/1966. It received this designation because it is an exceptionally well-preserved 19th-century gold rush town, featuring a high concentration of original buildings, a unique "verandahed" streetscape, and a remarkably intact heritage atmosphere. The Maldon Easter Fair is the longest running continuous Easter
