From PROCREATE to PAINT
Grampians Brushes | September 12–17, 2026

I’m excited to once again be teaching From Procreate to Paint at Grampians Brushes this September.

Procreate has become a really valuable part of my own art-making practice. I use it for drawing, painting, experimenting and developing ideas, but also alongside my analogue work — moving ideas back and forth between the iPad, paper and canvas.

In this workshop, we’ll start with the essential Procreate tools — brushes, colour, layers, working with photos, saving and sharing — then use Procreate both en plein air and from reference images to develop drawings and ideas.

From there, we’ll move into acrylic and mixed-media work on paper, using those digital beginnings as a springboard for bold, expressive paintings.

We’ll also bring Procreate back into the painting process, using it as a wonderfully useful ‘no-risk’ way to test colour, composition, cropping, additions and changes before committing them to the actual artwork.

You’ll learn how to:
• draw, paint and experiment directly in Procreate
• use layers to explore ideas freely
• move from digital sketches into physical artworks
• use Procreate to develop and refine paintings
• make the iPad a genuinely useful part of your everyday art practice

For me, Procreate is more than a digital sketchbook — it’s a bit like having a painting studio in your carry bag.

Suitable for artists with little or no Procreate experience and some painting experience.

Limited places are still available.

Places still available for my very fun Procreate to Paint workshop this September at Grampians Brushes. We cover all the Procreate basics and then I'll show you how I've use Procreate as an art making tool in its own right and how I've integrated it into my painting practice. We sketch with Procreate outdoors and develop paintings back in the studio. It's a heap of fun.
Check the link and if you want more info pm me, happy to share what it's all about.

Super excited to be a part of Grampians Brushes again this year running From Procreate to Paint. It's a fabulous journey from the basics of Procreate into semi-abstracted, colourful expressive landscapes in acrylics and mixed media.

Perfect for anyone wanting to get into Procreate as an art making medium and as a tool to assist in your analogue painting projects.

Ran this at Summer Brushes this year and it was a hoot. Everyone came away chock full of skills and ideas about how to enrich their art practice using Procreate.

This is such a special event in the Grampians, a week chock full of art, artist's talks and the company of other like minded art adventurers.

A small sample of some of my Morning Coffee Sketches here, with Pablo the magpie and a couple of Hawkesbury Landcapes.

We often believe we need to go somewhere special to find something worth painting. I know this well—I travel each year to Arkaroola, captivated by the drama of its red desert mountains. Yet some of the most beautiful subjects are closer than we think, quietly present, waiting for us to really see them.

As Marcel Proust said, "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."

Morning coffee drawing on Procreate. Enjoy.
