Our RASN Theatre Advisor Cass has just returned from a week on Kabi Kabi Country / the Sunshine Coast, culminating in Regional Arts Australia’s Artlands 2026.

Across the week, Cass delivered workshops, met one-on-one with artists to talk through their projects and practices, and explored how theatre makers can build stronger relationships with their audiences and communities.

At Artlands, Cass connected with artists, arts workers and presenters from across regional Australia, sharing ideas and listening to conversations about what sustainable regional creative practice can look like.

Cass’ reflection: “It was an inspiring and challenging week. Some of the provocations I’m bringing back to JUTE and RASN include embedding regenerative approaches in creative practice; putting Country and community priorities at the centre of project delivery; and questioning how our existing approaches to project and career development help - or hinder - artists to build sustainable creative practices.”

These conversations will continue to inform how RASN supports regional artists to develop their practice, projects, networks and careers.

A lovely project to celebrate International Literacy Day this September.

This International Literacy Day, we’re celebrating the many ways stories live, travel and are passed from one generation to the next.

This week, a creative team working on Three Dresses is On Country in Hope Vale, working with community on the stage adaptation of Wanda Gibson’s award-winning children’s picture book.

Moving the award-winning book Three Dresses from page to stage is about much more than adapting a book. It is about listening to the story in the place it comes from, celebrating Guugu Yimithirr language and culture, and exploring how words, images, music, movement and performance can open a story up for a new generation of young audiences.

At the heart of the work is Wanda’s story of childhood, family, Country, resilience and the joy found in simple things - a story that began on the page and is now taking another step in its journey.

We’re grateful to be developing this work On Country with the people and community who have shaped it.
