Breeding a successful performance horse starts long before the foal takes its first stride.

Research has highlighted something many horse breeders have suspected for years – the health of a foal's gut microbiome in the first month of life can have a lasting impact on both its health and its future athletic performance.

A landmark study following Thoroughbred foals from birth through to their racing careers found that foals with a more diverse and balanced gut microbiome at just 28 days of age were more likely to:
