Come along and be surprised. ✨

Celestation is more than a concert — it’s a journey from Earth into the vastness of space.

From the unmistakable sunrise of Also sprach Zarathustra, through the sweeping sound world of Interstellar, a World Premiere by a young Logan composer, and the haunting power of Earth Cry, to Holst’s monumental The Planets.

You might know some of this music.
You might discover something completely new.

Either way, come along, take your seat, and be surprised by what a symphony orchestra can do.

Come and hear Peter Sculthorpe's "Earth Cry." https://www.loganarts.com.au/event/logan-city-symphony-orchestra-celestation/

A Saturday a little over a week ago, I had the great privilege of visiting Harry Wilson at his home.

Harry Wilson has performed Peter Sculthorpe’s Earth Cry with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and has travelled extensively with the work. It was an extraordinary opportunity to sit down with him, talk through the score, and hear his insights into the music, its meaning and its preparation.

And, very generously, Harry also gave me a one-on-one demonstration.

We’re looking forward to sharing a performance grounded in Harry’s knowledge, experience and generosity — and one that strives to honour the extraordinary power of this music.

Experience Earth Cry live with the Logan City Symphony Orchestra at 6:00 pm, Sunday 4 October at the Logan Entertainment Centre.

Also featuring Holst’s The Planets, Interstellar, Also sprach Zarathustra and a world premiere from the LCO Young Composer Project.

🪐 Apparently Saturn is the planet that best represents David Innes … because it’s “The Bringer of Old Age.” 😂

We think he may be being just a little hard on himself. 😄

So we need your help. Watch the video and then leave him a message in the comments reminding him:

YOU’RE NOT THAT OLD! 📯❤️

You can hear him — and the rest of the Logan City Symphony Orchestra — bring Holst’s extraordinary The Planets to life at Celestation.

Which planet is the most under-rated? https://www.loganarts.com.au/event/logan-city-symphony-orchestra-celestation/

We’ve been asking around — and it turns out people have some very strong opinions. 👀

Mars gets all the attention. Jupiter is hard to ignore. Saturn has the rings. But which planet deserves a little more love?

Watch the video, then tell us in the comments: what’s YOUR most underrated planet? 🌎🪐✨

And then come hear what Gustav Holst thought of them all when the Logan City Symphony Orchestra performs The Planets live as part of Celestation.

Why do orchestras rehearse? https://www.loganarts.com.au/event/logan-city-symphony-orchestra-celestation/

Because when nearly 100 musicians come together, there are hundreds of decisions to make. How loud? How soft? Who leads here? Who listens? Where does the music grow? Where does it breathe? Where are we going together?

Rehearsal is where 100 individual musicians learn to make those decisions as one orchestra - Logan City Symphony Orchestra ... Logan's Own Orchestra!

✨ Also sprach Zarathustra | https://www.loganarts.com.au/event/logan-city-symphony-orchestra-celestation/

Few pieces of music are as instantly recognisable as the opening of Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra. Its magnificent sunrise fanfare became world famous through 2001: A Space Odyssey, forever linking it with discovery, wonder and humanity’s journey into the unknown.

But beyond those iconic opening moments lies a rich and powerful orchestral masterpiece, inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophical work of the same name. From moments of immense grandeur to passages of mystery and reflection, Strauss created one of the greatest tone poems ever written.

Experience Also sprach Zarathustra alongside Holst’s The Planets, music from Interstellar, Peter Sculthorpe’s Earth Cry, and more with the Logan City Symphony Orchestra.
