For our development, we were able to source Kramas from and were able to get some little gifts for the cast and creative. 🇰🇭

They are beautifully made scarves and key rings from Cambodia and if you’re ever in need of these beautiful pieces, hit them up.

Day 3 was just a writer and director session where it was just focusing on the words words words. 📝

We had a visit from Donita Cruz () who helped provide Dramaturgy support and good vibes as we talked out the ideas of the play.

Make sure you check out Donita’s play Imelda at KXT if you’re in Sydney. For more information, check out 👠

Day 1 and we’re finally in the building in the Randwick Literary Institute. Our day was filled with table reads and discussions about what life was like in the Khmer Rouge with sharing stories and also our favourite Martial Arts films. A lot of Rush Hour fans in the team.

🎇 ANNOUNCEMENT 🎇

We've been a little bit off the air but we're excited to announce that The Reaction Theory was a successful recipient of the Randwick Literary Institute Residency.

We will be in the space developing Australia’s first Teochew-Khmer play; Kung Pow Cambodia.

“After being suspended following a violent altercation, Nik is confined to her room. She confides in her mother that she wants to learn how to be strong like her grandmother — a woman who mastered the art of Kung Fu. Though reluctant, her mother finally agrees, opening the door to a hidden family history during Cambodia’s murderous Khmer Rouge all through the lens of 70’s martial arts movies.”

Watch this space as we will share the insights of our one week residency and maybe show how good our Kung Fu skills are along the way. 🥋

Wrapping up 2025, video reel style!
This year was monumental. Not only for us as a company, but for the artists we were lucky enough to collaborate with this year. From being recognised as highly commended at this year’s Multicultural Queensland Awards, to pitching a show to state producers and presenters, and further on premiering that theatre work we admire so deeply onto the Mainstage.

Leaving the year with two state theatre awards and being recognised for our craft, we’re incredibly grateful to every audience member who showed up, every artist who contributed, and the sector that believed in us.

We’ll see you all in the new year!

With love,
Chelsea 🥝 & Egan 🍚
