NORPA NORPA (Northern Rivers Performing Arts) is a theatre company based in regional Australia.

Based in Lismore in Northern NSW, NORPA is a not-for-profit theatre company with a thirty-year track record of making original Australian work inspired by the country and culture around us. We make bold and vital theatre for everyone and are recognised for creating work at the intersection of community, place and popular theatre. NORPA supports artform and artist development, youth engagement, and

is dedicated to supporting First Nations and Indigenous artists through residencies, workshops and new works about Bundjalung country. Having lost our home and theatre in the 2022 Lismore Flood, we have spent the past few years focusing on creating and presenting original site-specific productions through partnerships with local businesses, aligned government agencies, and iconic locations. NORPA holds an awarded track record for creating ambitious theatre works that attracts large audiences. These include Railway Wonderland (2012, 2015) set on a disused railway station, Dreamland (2016, 2019) presented in local halls, and Wildskin (2018, 2024) staged in a large rural shed. Flow (2019, 2023) was restaged as free, outdoor music concerts telling the dreaming story of Bundjalung and Yaegl people’s connection to water. Love For One Night was recognised by the Australian Performing Arts Centres peak body (PAC) winning an IMPACT Award in 2023 and gained national and local media coverage. NORPA bring homegrown stories to life in locations that prove small towns have big creative potential.

Introducing NORPA’s new Makers In Residence program — where artists are supported to imagine, test and grow bold new work, in conversation with our community and landscape.

This month we welcome actor and theatre-maker Imogen Sage as our first 2026 Maker In Residence. Imogen will spend two weeks in June developing a new one-woman work that interweaves Irish mythology, investigations into gender-based violence and trauma, and the local family history of Imogen’s Irish ancestral grandmother who disappeared in the Lismore area a century ago.

Imogen is also running two free theatre-making workshops while she’s here — spaces are limited so book now to secure your spot:
• Devising Theatre with Myth (27 Jun)
• Acting & Theatre Making (4 Jul)

Visit https://norpa.org.au/whats-on/ for details and book.

NORPA’s Makers In Residence program is supported by The Ian Potter Foundation.

🚧THE JOINERY CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 🚧 Blaze Projects are officially back onsite at The Joinery as we move into the final repair and fit-out stage.
With completion scheduled for early July, this phase will bring some exciting and practical improvements to the space — including new street-facing glazing, upgraded electricals, completed flooring, and reinstated kitchen and bathroom facilities. We’ll also be tackling repairs to fencing and gates, along with giving the outdoor courtyard a much-needed refresh. We’re looking forward to finishing this stage so we can start using the space.

“Creating and directing Love For One Night the first time was an act of discovery. Bringing it back to the Eltham Hotel NSW with fresh voices and a new musical director – that’s where we get to lean into the work and create even more magic. I can’t wait to be back in the world of this show,” — Julian Louis.
