Chambers of The Black Hand

Chambers of The Black Hand Ron Canlin the Artist The soft sandstone of the mine shafts was an ideal medium upon which to work his craft.
(714)

Ron Canlin is the creator of an underground labyrinth of mythological fantasy worlds in an old opal mine in Lightning Ridge, northwestern NSW, outback Australia. The ever-expanding work of art and imagination began more than ten years ago as a relaxing hobby after the daily hard grind of work in the (largely unproductive) mine below (20m underground). He was encouraged in the hobby by his associat

es and soon carving became a full-time occupation. Ron digs all the tunnels using a pick-axe and a bucket to remove the debris, and carves using a small pick and a bread-knife for the finer details. Various chambers take one through the Aussie bush, Ancient Egypt, biblical legends, Greek myths, ancient and modern heros, symbols and epics...there is no end to Ron's energy and imagination.
