It's the last weekend for the Art for Nature exhibition at the lovely Anderson Hill Winery in Lenswood this coming weekend.
If you haven't yet been you can go Saturday or Sunday and enjoy beautiful wine, views, wood oven pizza's and of course interesting art in the form of photographs, ceramics, textile art and paintings. You won't be disappointed !

Beginning on Sunday 5 February, a group of Adelaide Hills artists are holding an exhibition at the Anderson Hill Winery in Lenswood. The title of the exhibition will be "Art for Nature," and there will be a variety of nature-based artwork on show, with artists donating a percentage of any sales to the conservation park or reserve of their choice.

If you enjoy good wine complemented by excellent food, scenic surroundings and the prospect of viewing (and perhaps even buying an original of) an eclectic mix of local, nature-themed artwork, we'd love for you to join us for our inaugural exhibition.

"Cleland Koala." Dry pastel on paper by Steve Hargreaves Artwork. The reference photo was taken in Cleland Wildlife Park.

Here is my artist statement for the Art for Nature exhibition to be held at the Anderson Hill Winery in February.

"I have always loved nature. Since I was a boy I have been fascinated by the sciences that help us to understand the mechanisms of our environment, and by the incredible variety and beauty of the living creatures that inhabit the world we live in. The goal of my artwork, whether it be graphite, charcoal or pastel-based, is photo-realism. I find it remarkable that it is possible to capture the character of an animal, the personality of a person or even the essence of life itself, simply by making the correct marks on a piece of paper. That the paper and pencils themselves were once living things lends a strange, organic twist to the process of drawing.

In this exhibition I have chosen to support the Volunteers of Cleland Conservation Park. Many of the reference photographs for my drawings were taken there. The park conserves an important area of bushland situated in the Adelaide Hills face zone. A network of walking and cycling trails introduces people to the native wildlife, cultural heritage and spectacular views of the Adelaide Hills and surrounds. The area has a diverse history that included logging and grazing. Volunteers play an important role in maintaining and restoring the beauty and biodiversity of the park for the future."

Come along and see a selection of Christian's world class photography
Artist Statement – Art for Nature
Christian Sabey
An avid traveller and photographer Christian has had the privilege to capture
some of the worlds most beautiful and fragile landscapes and creatures. While
having traveled from Africa to the Americas and many places in between, he
frequently returns to Tasmania home of some of Australia’s most diverse and
dramatic landscapes. The images presented by Christian in this collection
highlight a sample of Tasmania’s beauty and also threats to that beauty.
Christian has selected the Tarkine National Coalitions “Save the Tarkine”
campaign as his chosen conservation charity. The Tarkine region is a 447,000
hectare wilderness area of recognized World Heritage Significance in the North-
West corner of the state. While possessing an immense diversity including one
of the worlds most significant remaining tracts of temperate rainforest, only 5%
of its area is protected as National Park. It is home to sites of Aboriginal
significance and more than 60 rare, threatened and endangered species
including the last disease free population of the Tasmanian Devil. As the
majority of the area is unprotected multiple threats have emerged to put this
delicate region at risk such as mining, old growth logging, cattle and unregulated
4wd tourism.
