have been facilitating Art Departments for 20 Years.I believe we are the longest continuously running prop manufacturer in Sydney. We provide a broad range of services from a small humble prop build to running the Art Department on major projects. We are based at the Canal Road Film Centre, where we have been based since it started as a film hub. We are a bricks and
mortar business with a permanent workshop not a fly by night back yard operation like many others. We have a large range of equipment at our Studio workshop which allow us to tackle most types of jobs professionally. We are fully OH&S compliant and licensed in all the disciplines required, including, rigging, explosives, scaffolding etc. We are fully insured with both public liability and workers compensation. Born In Dublin Ireland. Studied Fine Art at college, Sculpture, Painting,Print making and Photography. Moved to Australia in 1989 and started working as a model maker in Film and for Architecture.I Became the secretary of the now defunct Guild of Professional Model Makers. I am now an APDG steering Committee member. Through both formal training and on the job learning I have broadened my skill base and cover many areas of Film TV Theatre and Live Events. My skill set is very broad and I cover both hands-on manufacturing and project planning/Art Direction. I teach Prop Making at the Actors College of Theater and Television. I run my business, Babylon Effects Pty Ltd, out of my workshop at the Canal Road Film Center where I am one of the original tenants. I believe it is the oldest established Prop and Model making business in Sydney. I have many trade licenses including Advanced Rigging, Explosives, Telescopic handler, Boom lift, Fork Lift and advanced Scaffolding. I have worked all over the world, and covered many diverse rolls from humble prop making jobs to Art Directing of Feature Films. My personal career highlight would have to be my roll as props master for the Sydney Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, looking after 72 containers full of props, through the rehearsal process, the events them selves, and a hand over afterwards the the Powerhouse Museam.
