We are thrilled to announce a Brum Brum commission to be broadcast this weekend at β‘Andrea Breen, a Tasmanian sound artist, writer and performance artist with enduring interests in social and environmental action, collaboration and improvisation.
For the past twenty years she has been developing a practice in generative and interactive processes of sound, word, image and movement, and composing music for dance and radio.
"The four pieces created for Brum Brum radio emerged spontaneously from listening to local Hobart bird calls that popped into my suburban consciousness while playing Bach on my viola. These works are montages, b of recordings of birds, from the Tasmania suburbs and bush, layered with improvised acoustic music, electronic fragments and improvised speech.
Oh, and a crumb fallen off the canon, from one of Bachβs Brandenburg concertos.
Creating these pieces has reminded me how much the here and now is what we have and who we are. What we do with it, and in it, is our infinite, vibrant question."
