This is a very vulnerable post. TW: Death of an animal
I had a really tough day at work yesterday. Veterinary medicine, especially in a shelter, can be so brutal. A patient that I cared for when she first came in as a tiny 10 week old kitten crashed unexpectedly and died while a wonderful vet and I were trying to treat her. She died peacefully in my arms.
This isn’t the first time this has happened but this one really got to me. When this happens you begin to self-blame, self-doubt and question everything. The day then continued to be awful. When I got home I didn’t quite know what to do with myself or put my emotions. I indulged in Maccas for dinner then sat down and painted. This painting is a reflection on who I am as a person inside and outside of my career. I have this on my fridge to remind me that I am enough.
