Large: 430mm x 300mm x 50mm Thick. Weight: 5kg. Single Stainless carry handle

All hand made from various Australian Hardwoods. Blue gum, Grey Iron bark, Red Iron Bark, Spotted gum, Tallowood, Redgum.

Please note these are hand made and thus come with defects such as cracks and nail holes. The timber is in some cases 10's if not 100's of years old, some were posts, others were marine pylons. I fill each defect with resin to prevent food and water getting jammed in there.

All boards finished in food grade Orange oil and sanded to 400 grit.

Also up for sale is BABAYLON III. More of a hall way or side table piece, due to its weight and size (will also require a local power point so it can be illuminated). Made from Yellow box burl (from Mudgee NSW) and carved almost in the same form as it was when I got it. I have used the right side for an Air plant to be homed and also embedded RGB LED lights under a pool of crushed blue glass. The clock numbers are made from tiny brass ferrules, and I crushed the blue glass into a powder and mixed with resin to put into each brass ferrule and then embedded into the burls which I then sanded following the same curvature as the timber, so its all flush, which worked out well. The Clock enclosure is turned Camphor Laurel with a easy access design to allow battery change. Finished in Danish oil and a smattering of EEE Super Shine Wax.

$290.00 AUD. I have shipped this size if timber in the past so can organise at the clients cost for shipping, just let me know where.

Despite the success of this weekends Wood U Knot appearance at the Kurnell Village Festival I have a couple of flagship timber pieces that remain.

First up is EDEN. The air plant is now in full flower and really sets the piece aside. Perfect for a side table or center piece. Can be shipped depending on location.

$150 AUD (please enquire about shipping)

Another piece of old Red Box I found under the house, most likely from the Mudgee collection of burls I secured 15 years ago. Incredible amount of sanding and carving in this piece and from time to time I wasn’t sure if it was going to be stable enough to stand upright, but with thankfully it held up ad has remained strong. Air plants populate the holes and caverns that mother nature put into place. Finished in Danish oil and 400 grit sand paper.

Touch and Go

What a painful piece to finish. With days before a recent show, this was finished after months of creative block and ideas out the window. Various handle designs that came and went and way to much over thinking. The timber came from a gent who was moving to Taz and gave me a large slab of Blue Gum. About the heaviest and most dense timber I use. It was original supposed to be a bench seat and after a number of years in the work shop as a single slab I chopped into 2 pieces and begun making a vessel. The base and lid were a little unstable in places and some resin has been used to aid in turning safely as this was a heavy piece. The handle is Red Box burl and its finished in Danish oil and EEE wax.

Will be on show at the Kurnell Village Festival November 2nd

FLIP

Slice of Spotted Gum that was given to me 7 years ago by a good friend, that remained in the too hard basket for too long. So I pulled it from retirement and got to work on it, then I realised why I left it. Some timber just does not like being formed into anything, and this gum wanted to twist and warp and generally throw its dummy. So I laminated to a more well behaved slice of Blue Gum, which then gave the piece a whole new usable dimension. I have inset 2 x stainless dipping dishes along with a stainless salt and pepper shaker, but if your feeling a little wild! You can flip the whole thing over and having a red night with the Blue gum timber.
Use as a cheese and Bikky board.

Finished in Australian food safe oil.

Will be on show at the Kurnell Village Festival November 2nd.

MONGEL BOARDS

Due to some popular demand (and a need to move some timber under the house) I have decided to make a range of cutting / Charcutier boards made from a mix of Australian Hardwoods (Mongrel….get it?!). We have Spotted Gum, Red Gum, Silky Oak, She Oak, Grey Iron Bark, Red Iron Bark, Blue Gum, Grey Gum, Stringy Bark, Sycamore, Walnut, ……….not necessarily in that order…….and don’t ask in what boards!. Handy little fellas to have in the kitchen. All finished to 400 grit and soaked in Australian food safe Orange oil.

I have a limited number of these for the Kurnell Village Festival on November 2nd

RESURRECTION

This is a bitter sweet project that was born from another form, called “Pillars, Rings and Rather Odd things”. This piece was thrown across the room by my son who had a massive tanty!. Little survived apart from the main vessel which has been in my shed now for 3 years or so. Its now been reformed, repurposed and back into another form of glory. Made from camphor Laurel and finished in Danish oil to 600 grit sanding and some EEE wax for final finish.

This will be on show at the Kurnell Village Festival November 2nd
