Logan Community Open Mic

Logan Community Open Mic This project was originally supported by the Logan Regional Arts Development Fund. Even better, entry is free! We can accommodate solo performers, duos or trios.

Starting from July, Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) Cultural Precinct will host a monthly open mic event providing musicians of all styles and skill levels with an opportunity to perform at Logan’s new performing arts hub. Hosted by local singer-songwriter Lisa Maps, the events offer an opportunity to gain performance experience, connect with other local artists, and share your talents in front of a

supportive audience – whether you are an experienced performer or a first timer. The events will provide an opportunity to discover Logan’s vibrant and diverse musical talent, and each event will conclude with a feature performance from one of our local artists. So even if the stage is not for you, it will be a night out not to be missed - and your chance to show your support to our up-and-coming musicians. The events will run on the following dates:

• Thursday 14th July, 7-10pm
• Thursday 4th August, 7-10pm
• Thursday 1st September, 7-10pm
***NOTE CHANGE OF DATE***
• Thursday 6th October, 7-10pm
• Thursday 3rd November, 7-10pm

The final event for the season will be a special Open Mic Showcase on Friday 16 December (further details TBC). Musicians of all styles and skill levels are welcome. Performers are advised to arrive early and add their name to the blackboard, as set times are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. This project is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support arts and culture in regional Queensland.

I couldn't imagine a more fitting celebration to wrap up 18 months of amazing performances.

I am so proud of every single performer, seeing how many of you came out to show your support was truly heart warming and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you all.

As we head into the festive season I wish you all a safe and happy holidays. Please don't be strangers - our regular events may be on hiatus but I hope that our community will continue to thrive and support one another into the new year and beyond.

Take care,

Nate Harris (N8) is an emerging Australian singer-songwriter. His vocals are versatile, powerful yet delicate, showcasing his ability to deliver the sentiment of the lyrics in a song. Through his songwriting, he captures the hearts of many, able to express the softest heartbreak and the loudest passion. Songwriting is his cathartic release, and his content goes beyond teen bedroom pop, writing mature, relatable, and truthful music.

Andrew Ryan (Justmakinoise) is our second artist appearing as a part of Friday's originals showcase, opening the night alongside his daughter Amy.

Australian bush poetry is where Andrew’s passion for storytelling began. Supporting Amy writing her first songs aged 10 years in 2019-2020 was the catalyst for the flood gates open for Andrew bringing his own stories to song.

Continuing to write together in 2022, Andrew and Amy were awarded the TSA Gary Kohler Award for Novice songwriter of the year. Their song “Our Land” describes Australia and what it means to them both. Andrew also later received a Brumby Award for new male talent of the year for the self-penned “Beauty of the Bush,” which also reached the No 1 spot on the Tasmanian Australian independent Country Music Chart. In 2023 Andrew received Heritage Song of the year in the CCMA’s for “Enough to Drive you Mad”.

Life has changed dramatically for Andrew because of his new found love for music!

Come and witness this incredible local songwriting live in the Butterbox Theatre from 7pm this Friday 17th November. All the details are here: https://fb.me/e/1B1Cn7Uwe

Kicking us off this time next week at our Open Mic Originals event will be the incredible Amy Ryan Music, who will be performing alongside her father Andrew.

Amy is a young girl with big dreams and determination. Since the age of nine, Amy has been fortunate enough to collaborate with iconic Australian and US based folk, bluegrass and country music artists.

Cutting her teeth busking on Peel Street in Tamworth with a strong work ethic enabled Amy in 2021 to graduate the Country Music Academy aged at eleven years. In 2022, Amy released her first single “Sitting Pretty” which soon followed with her debut Album “Our Land”. The track “As I Ride” co-written with Peter Smokie Dawson, saw Amy reach number 1 on the Tasmanian Australian Independent Country Chart. In January 2023, Amy received the Brumby Award for under 18 female vocalists of the year for the song “Diamantina Dreaming.” Amy released her second Album “My Escape” 21st July 2023 and is being well received.

Catch Amy from 7pm in the Butterbox Theatre next Friday 17 November. You'll find all the details here: https://fb.me/e/1B1Cn7Uwe
