Feels good to get a couple orders out the door this week, for the first time in almost 3yrs.

Should be a couple happy knife makers out there this time next week.

Hi ,

I’d like to sincerely apologise to all for my lack of presence. I’ve been living with my head buried in the sand the past 3yrs or so, suffering from horrible depression, anxiety and ptsd along with the usual ABI issues. I quit smoking about 3-4w ago and trying to start tackling life again.

There’s Sassafras blocks and scales, various species and types of Myrtle blocks and Streaky Myrtle scales, Blackwood, Lacey Sheok (light and dark), Cophur Laurel.

I also have a big number of blocks stashed away, most to cut down to scales. My standard block sizing is 35mm x 45mm x 150mm. Aiming for around $10 a block, depending on mix and volume.

If anyone is wanting anything, feel free to contact me.

Dan

Feel like I’m making good progress as much as I’m aware I’m using other tasks as avoidance to use the saw table.

But I’ve got the table set up to sort out the timber jamming issue with my angle grinder tomorrow and late this afternoon after 2-3 weeks. I finally faced ripping my Sassafras and Blackwood lengths and both my mitre saws are stored on shelves now.

Awesome to get my welding table back, as I have some billets to face grinding and welding together for the forge.

Shed space is almost there, got my last box of drawers mounted and the bench cleared abit more. Have all my Cactus Resin out now, as I wanted the reminder and motivation. But also ended up needing the space to move my thickenesser over.

Hope to have my saw table guide, sorted for finer dressed blades and get stuck into slicing and ripping.

Tomorrow I hope to have the bottom shelf of my welding table done and a hammer rack made and welded to my anvil stand. 🤞

The Virgo in me couldn’t cope with the mess on the bench and I’d gotten 3 more grey trays from the Z Shed to take out to the shed tomorrow.

Played with my to do lists (I use 3 post it not pads before I put things in my diary or it’s too stressful, as is listing tasks with an ABI and PTSD as task order can kill anything being done) and just went out and focused on a couple things and ended up getting a lot more done. Looks so much better. 🥳

That’s 90% off tomorrows jobs done. 🤣🤣

Tools ready to go into toolbox tomorrow, fridge will come in the house for a clean, then go in caravan in a fortnight.

WIP…

Got abit moved around tidied up, yesterday and today in the shed/workshop and carport. 🥳

Managed to find a shelf to fit my thickenesser and my sandblaster fitted in front of my rotated work bench perfectly. Plus the lowered shelf has worked out perfect for 2 tubs and cleared space elsewhere.

Moved the scroll saw from the bench to a shelf, as well as the bench grinder back to the rear bench, where it won’t throw stuff all over my timber. Giving me the bench again for my vice and handle assembly, etc and lots of space for timber to be sliced. 🥳

Got a few things to put away, including tools to the toolbox and have grey trays to fill grouped items ie sandpaper. So things should look a lot tidier soon. Going to mount the red box of drawers on the wall as well as the first box has a lot of router, milling, etc bits in it.

Cleaned out the work bench pigeon hole, ready for the 12” dewalt mitre saw once I’ve ripped the last few lengths of Sassafras and Blackwood. Then I can reclaim my welding table. 🥳

Wasn’t a productive day, having missed my meds last night until 8am. My weekly physio was a battle too.

But later this arvo managed to get some shelves from bunnings, couldn’t see me getting my idea done until tomorrow.

But around 5pm, I took the brackets I’d removed from the z shed (removed a bottom shelf for the brackets) and before I knew it I had the shelves cut and a bracket on the wall. Then all 3 shelves mounted.

Much needed shelf space, esp with my ABI, seeing things and for my knife making as well. Getting things out from under the bench.

Tomorrow I really hope to have a bunch of timber ripped to length and put in the Timber shelves or on the bench with everything else, to be sliced. 🤞

It’s taken me a couple days, but I’m almost there.

I’ve been focusing on tidying the shed, so the space is usable. Getting the shelf done with the stereo and laptop yesterday, was great motivation to keep going.

Aiming to push myself to the point, the only 2 options I have is to rip lengths of Timber beside the press. Which will tidy the shed and provide more stock to slice. Or take lengths off the bench to the saw table and slice them up.

Found a few 48” belts living in the wild, behind the Patrol and Z1000 batteries on the bench. Going to be a joy to tame them and get them hanging on the wall again. 🙄🤦🏻🤣🤣

Took cutting timber off my todo list.

Got out and connected up the power board I found and next thing I know I’ve ripped 2 lengths and a long chunk of Figured Blackwood, then hooked up the wifi and got some tunes going. 🥳

First time cutting stock in over 12m. 🥳🥳

Technically I have a heap of Sassafras and figured Blackwood to move to the saw table and cut into 45mm strips. Was going to hopefully be next weeks project, but might now be this weekends project. 🥳

Finally got outside to the shed (Only took 5+ hrs and 2 Va**um) and shifted all the timber to the other side of the shed, against the Timber Storage Unit and Drill Press. I have to cut all of it down to 465mm lengths then some to the work bench for the saw table and the rest loaded into the shelving unit.

Got the stereo and laptop ready to go, plugged in the power board and it is dead… 🙄🤦🏻

Hoping I can get the timber all ripped over the weekend, so I can focus on cutting timber into strips on the saw table next week.

Started a barter order for a couple pairs of tongs and a couple of hammers, using my Red Heart Leatherwood for their handles. Had an order on a set of tongs since July last year, the last time I lit my forge as I was stuck. Turns out the order was forgotten about… Yay! Not… So hopefully I’ll be able to light my forge again soon as knife jaw tongs are just too hard for me to hold 16mm round bar and get my first tongs finished off, so I gave up waiting on the tongs. Seriously weak as p**s apology too, considering the situation was explained. But anyway…. Moving along.

Needed to move my 12” mitre saw, to get access to clean my saw table top. But I didn’t want to put it on the ground out of the way, as I still need to use it. Just its on the welding table, thankfully just can’t stay there for too long. But it’s fastened down ready to rip lots of Blackwood in chunk and boards.

Even made a start on cleaning my saw table, got abit over half done as well as clearing the far side. Just need to fit a new scourer disc tomorrow and the rest won’t take long to finish off. As I’m really hoping to start slicing up sassafras and ripping blackwood strips and producing knife handle blocks and slabs again, tomorrow. 🤞🤞

Will be the first time processing timber stock in over a year, since I last cut my other finger as well... 🤣🤣🥳🥳

Taken me forever!
But finally took a heap of Sassafras and my 3 Red Heart Leatherwood boards and docked the ends on the 12” Dewalt Mitre Saw. 🥳

Slicing the Sass up into 45mm wide strips, is the next job. Should only take me another 6-12m, with my anxiety. 🙄

This is about 4 boards over half of the Sassafras chunks I paid a mate to cut and dress for me

Some really lovely figure.

Feels like a really productive weekend after emptying the Ute out @ the tip today. 💴 😳

Hoping to get out tomorrow and move my 12” Dewalt Mitre saw onto my saw table. Take all the lengths of timber out to the carport workshop and dock the ends and rip everything into 3 (465mm) or 4 (520mm) handle lengths long and try to fit it all into shelving to be processed once I’m ready. 🤞

I cleared my dinner table this afternoon, so I have 3 lengths of Blackwood, 3 lengths of Red Heart Leatherwood and plucked the shorter chunk of Reddish Blackwood with a nice cross section of Spelt Blackwood (The white part) from the pile behind the dinner table.

Then after Hamish fell asleep I raided the pile again and found several lengths of Sassafras in Black Heart, and not like any of my Sassafras stock. 🥳

Went out in the dark tonight, to move stuff around in the carport, to make sure it’s easier to make a start tomorrow.
