Little throwback to when I hit up the wonderful and .munro.writer for tips on how to stay creative during peri and parenting teens. No silver bullets but definitely some validation that it isn’t just me. So if you are in this season too - hang in there! 💜

How do we hold ourselves in check when the, especially online, business world is pushing us to egoic and narcissistic standards of impact. How do we execute our social responsibility without falling into a narrative that is also very inhumane and dismissive of the more human need and design to impact smaller circles of our community.

Carving out space and time for nothingness can be quite a radical act in a world that is spiralling into greater speed and distraction. It can also be surprisingly uncomfortable to allow space and silence, to feel our nervous systems unravelling and detoxing from stress, to hear voices that are quietened by all the doing and identifying. I believe more and more it’s by bringing more of this space into everyday life that we can reclaim our humanity, find solutions for our problem riddled planet and compassion for each other in times of radical polarisation. And while a time out can be a great way to kick start change it’s how we can integrate more space in the everyday that is the big challenge and profound opportunity.

“I want to get paid what I’m worth” - this phrase gets thrown around in spiritual circles in a way that can be problematic. Your worth as a human is not related to your hourly rate. Your worth in the market though is related to the value you bring, the demand and what your customer is willing to pay. Don’t confuse the two!

Don’t believe the hype from coaches and programs trying to sell you quick fixes. Overnight success formulas are generally bu****it. Statistically, small businesses need to strap in for a 2-5 year ride before hitting profit. Aside from the stats, overnight successes are problematic. Unless you have resources, skills and experience with rapid scale up, you will likely find yourself struggling to meet demand with your clients. Unless you have the business skills to manage a bigger team and higher rates of production you put yourself at risk of HR missteps, poor procedures and over capitalising. Slow business is often times good business.

A rant on creativity, capitalism, mindless consumption and risk aversion. I don’t think it’s AI that’s destroying creativity. I think it’s that capitalism has made risk taking too high stakes. What do you think?

Today’s the day! Hey Death, It’s Time We Talk. Our deep dive into our relationship with death, dying and living. It’s been such an uplifting and expansive process pulling this together and I’m really excited to bring it to the stage at 3.30 this afternoon (room C 2.5 and 2.6). Thanks to my wing woman from and .au for this beautiful conversation. 😍

I’ve never been much good at surface level chit chat. I remember while doing HSC Classical studies coming across Socrates’ quote “the unexamined life is not worth living”. At the ripe old age of 17, this landed as a code worth living by and 30 years later I feel the same.

My wonderful friend who will be presenting with me on Monday afternoon at says death is the opposite of birth, not life. So to live a truly examined life we have to walk with the tension that our mortality is a certainty. All of this earthly human existence is finite and fleeting. So how do we want to use our time here?

I am so grateful to Holly and Fenella and the team at South by Southwest for making space for this kind of existential discussion day one of this year’s conference. Our session “Hey Death, It’s Time We Talk” is an unravelling of how we came to disconnect our lives from death and how we can reincorporate it back into our every day. This is a returning to our very core human nature and a life of deeper joy, connection, purpose and meaning.

If you are coming along this year we would love you to join us at 3:30 on Monday afternoon to kickstart your conference with some real existential discussion and infuse your week - and hey we’re hoping your whole life - with deeper meaning. 🤍
