“To recognise the beauty of impermanence is my journey to date. Being in the moment involves the paradoxical willingness to let it go.
I’ve always clung to what makes me feel in love with life and been adverse to stepping into anything I desire but can’t see as sustainable. I’ve feared experiences I can’t see any goodness in, like the ongoing effects of invisible disability. When my conditions cycle into periods of distressing intensity, I fear experiencing life like wet cement will never end. I forget that over three decades of life like this, it always ends. Now that people know, I’m not alone in finding a way out of the overwhelming obstacles separating me from feeling alive.
This series of paintings marks when I found an internal anchor in the truism that ‘this too shall pass’ works both ways.
I no longer live in the fear of being unable to hold onto what and who I most love. I surrender to appreciating and experiencing moments with who and what I most love. I confront experiences and those I don’t love and examine them until I understand how to interact with the unwanted reality to elevate and grow into the reality I love, with who I love and can be as I am.”

“Transcendent Fusion” is my captivating journey into the realm of abstraction, where I dissolve the boundaries of reality through the harmonious fusion of ink and water, captured by my lens in high-speed photography, and the dynamic interplay of oil and acrylic colours on canvas.
Each artwork within this collection, measuring an expansive 36 by 48 inches, stands as a testament to my artistic prowess, skilfully orchestrating compositions where vibrant palettes and fluid contours burst into life. Within each piece of this collection, I extend an invitation for you to embark on a visual odyssey, blurring the lines that separate the tangible from the imaginative. The delicate patterns birthed from the dance of ink in water are forever suspended in time, transformed into enigmatic and lively abstract masterpieces. The convergence of colours, the textures that beckon your touch, and the shapes that whisper stories weave together to offer you a multisensory experience, while the kinetic strokes and layered dimensions of oil and acrylic paints infuse my artworks with a profound sense of depth and vivacity.
At its core, “Transcendent Fusion” is my celebration of the exquisite unpredictability that defines existence. I offer you a gentle nudge, encouraging you to embrace the mysteries that lie beyond our known horizons. The vivid and effervescent nature of my collection holds your gaze, delivering a symphony of hues that evoke feelings of elation, hope, and a zest for life itself.
With each piece, I extend an open invitation, beckoning you to submerge yourself in the mesmerizing universe of abstract art. Here, the intricate interplay of ink, water, oil, and acrylic converges harmoniously, birthing a transcendent visual experience that lingers—an ethereal resonance that transcends the ordinary.”

““Drape” hints at the sensual – images that emerge from the darkness, referenced from carefully lit, draped, twisted and flung fabric. This collection explores the beauty in drapery’s folds and creases – evocative of the hidden, the feminine form, ‘moulage’, or crumpled bed linen. These paintings, which draw on the tradition of chiaroscuro, are a meditation on the intimate, while also revering the fabric itself: each piece named after an aesthetic description of the material’s creation or application.”

“Themes of spirituality, nature, and mental health permeate Dion’s emotive earth-toned paintings, offering a tender glimpse into their own soul. Having exhibited in group shows and cafes, Ladder Art Gallery is proud to present Dion’s debut solo exhibition.
In the midst of 2022’s most testing moments, Dion endured profound tragedy within their family, a devastating breakup, and their own hospitalisation. From these depths, the poem “Giving, Grieving, Growing” emerged, birthing an unfiltered collection of authentic watercolour pieces. Each brushstroke bears the weight of their emotions, offering a testament to resilience. Through vibrant hues and delicate textures, this exhibition narrates a journey of healing and growth.
These paintings convey hope, resilience, and self-love. Immerse yourself in their colours, textures, and emotions, finding solace and inspiration in their raw authenticity.
Join us to witness the transformative journey of giving, grieving, and growing, discovering the profound strength within us all.”

“I have a deep connection with the Victorian High Country, specifically the area around Mt Buller. I consider the mountain as a second home and have observed its transformation with the seasons. It is a magical area that allows one to be transported to a place of tranquility and awe, away from the bustle of city life. I have spent many hours observing and soaking in the atmosphere. This exhibition represents a body of work developed over that time. It seeks to portray that connection with the mountain and the beauty of the landscape both in winter and summer. Winter sees the landscape transformed to white and fog and haze with amazing shadowy patterns produced by the snow gums over the white blanketed ground. Summer produces a “golden hour” with breathtaking sunsets and rolling mountains. After the snow melts there also remains an interesting landscape with the infrastructure of the skiing and mountain biking industry. There is a real juxta position of nature and man made, which forces one to wonder what will happen in the future as the planet warms and the snow melts?”

“Decayed, discarded, and disintegrating. Why are we as human beings so intrigued by objects and places that have been neglected, abandoned, and forgotten. What is it that draws us to crumbling buildings filled with rusted and rotting objects that are a stagnant reminder of a passage of time. “Breathe” is a series of argyrotype photographic prints that captures and preserves a brief moment from a locations journey towards total decay, a destruction of not just form but memory held within the essence of a place. Each image returning these places and objects into the spotlight with the argyrotype alternative photographic process enhancing the textural beauty of the subject matter. The goal isn’t necessarily to seal its fate, taking a morbid glimpse at its decayed co**se, but to revel in the life it housed and the stories it gathered. A last breathing of life into a space being reclaimed by the world, the earth itself crushing the structure back into the dirt from which it came, slowly fading away from ever existing. Can you hear the whispers through the peeling paint, rusted hardware, and piles of rubble? If only they could talk.”

FINAL HOURS to visit the exhibition in the gallery.
Posted • You can still view this painting
in person where my exhibition ‘Beyond what you can see…’ is still currently on.
Check it out by this Friday 🖼️🎨 ⭐️ The exhibition is on till the 4th August 🗓️
‘The Sound of Rain’ (60x90cm) evokes a contemplative and nostalgic feeling. It recalls the sensory experience of looking at a city through a wide window with no edges while observing and listening to sudden rainfall. White paint is applied with a spontaneous dripping effect through the painting to reflect the rainfall fluidity and its unpredictable nature. I use yellow to recall artificial streetlights and red reminding of cars stopped in the traffic, all elements forming part of the rain-soaked surrounding environment.

Posted • "The Path to Gondwana" is another of my personal collection exhibited at till 3 pm on Saturday August 5, 81 Denmark Street, Kew.
While I'm inviting you to see the original, perhaps a little of its history is inspiring. An interpretation of my walk in the Australian Gondwana landscape at Cranbourne Botanic Gardens.
The first pic is a closeup of the centre details. The fairy Wren, Leptospermum and base of a tree fern are prominent. The second pic shows the work in progress in full and the third shows the finished work.
The fourth pic is one of numerous first prizes it earned, here the Gold Medal for Creativity at the Mondial Art Academia in France. The fifth pic is the original concept rough sketch. You can see the changes in the final work when you compare the sketch.
I spent weeks wandering in the gardens taking reference photos to work from, like those attached at the end. Eucalyptus racemosa with its distinctive tanin washed bark is very prominent in the upper right of the final. The quite small flowers of Grevillea baueri have a fascinating structure and are featured above the Fairy Wren in the art. In the far bottom left you see a curled new frond of an ancient species of tree fern, for which many reference photos served.
The art took around 10 weeks, is 94.5 cm H x 94.5 cm W x 10 cm deep. Papers are mostly handmade Asian h**p, Mulberry and flax on a cotton art paper background. Ink tinted.

A JOURNEY INTO THE PAPER SCULPTURE WORLD OF RAY BESSERDIN
Posted • I have a lot of passions outside my paper sculpture art. One is entomology, and actually graduated in Biological Sciences in preparation for becoming an Entomologist. But art was always the stronger attraction. I fused the two motives in works like this, featuring a Christmas Beetle.
"A Call to Change" is an uncommon "statement artwork" of mine drawing attention to our dwindling insects, exemplified by this once very abundant, beautiful beetle.
I built an extremely unique triangular frame for it, representing delta, the Greek symbol for change.
Getting wonderful reviews, it's shown here in a stunning setting, and is on exhibition at in Kew till Aug 5.
Also shown are some steps creating the art via tedious studies of an actual specimen through a microscope. Rewardingly, it also won numerous awards including an Honourable Mention at MAA 2020 International Professional Artist Concourse, France.
Sculptured mostly from a base of Arches 185gsm cotton art paper, with the upper body shapes of 30gsm Asian Kozo, ink tinted for colour. Wing membranes are 8 gsm Awagami Tengusho.

A JOURNEY INTO THE PAPER SCULPTURE WORLD OF RAY BESSERDIN
Posted • Impressionist Sculptured Paper is my signature style, inspired by the French painters of that period. Where they used brush and paint to capture life, resemblance and the moment without being bogged by detail, I wanted to do the same but dimensionally with sculptured paper. Don Burrows, the legendary Australian Jazz Woodwind artist, kindly sat for poses while I photographed him for this work. Steps in creating the portrait are shown here. You can view the original along with the composer Sven Libaek (who also sat for his reference photography) at my current exhibition.
Sculptured in a base of Hahnemülle 300gsm cotton NOT paper and ink tinted 30 gsm handmade Japanese Mulberry paper. The hair was a special challenge: it's made of 4gsm ultra light Mulberry tissue.

“I was inspired by the unexpected yet pleasant hot weather in Melbourne on New Year’s Eve in 2022. I intended to represent the idea of heat and sweat and hot temperature which was perfect for summer lovers like me. The day had been so sunny with no breeze at all. Right at midnight, the fireworks were whirling and spurting high in sky. I could still visualize that exact moment and feel that same heat as I was painting.”

“Experimenting with shades of blue and gold to create an energetic, sparkling, and precious piece of art, with small and gentle overlapping strokes of paint. This painting represents a cascade of shiny blue diamonds, the precious stone associated with strength, love, and health. We all worthy of that.”

“My abstract paintings are a visual representation of my unconscious mind and creativity. Sometimes I start to paint from a place of inner peace; other times, from the urge to express a more unsettled inner world. Either way, the painting process is cathartic and grounding. It unfolds intuitively and it is always guided by music, which channels my emotions. When I paint, I feel that the invisible becomes visible, with no limit to what the final piece may express or evoke, over time. I know that the painting is finished when I feel that the composition is harmonious, energetic, and uplifting.
‘Beyond what you can see…’ is a collection of evocative abstract paintings representing my idiosyncratic association of colours to certain natural elements or phenomena, and my emotional response to the great variety and stunning beauty of the natural world that I have either seen in real life or only in pictures or imagined. This series invites the viewer to connect with nature through my abstract aesthetic interpretation of it.
The paintings in this collection are crowded with spontaneous paint strokes, superimposed layers of vivid acrylic colours, contrasting shapes and paint splatters. I use palette knives, sponges, brushes, glitters, crushed beads, and gold/silver leaves, amongst others, to achieve the effect I want.”
