INTRODUCING LUKE M DE ZILVA

Luke M de Zilva (Gadigal Country/ Sydney) is an experimental singer-songwriter, composer and curator, storytelling with vocals, reverberant guitar and strings.

Luke M de Zilva released Up / Bright, Bright Blue, a split single alongside Bluetung’s we crossed the atlantic, untitled, 31 January 2024 (its brand spanking new!). Up / Bright, Bright Blue is the final third of a performance, alongside cellist Peter Hollo, at the inaugural Volume Festival at the Art Gallery of NSW, a site-specific set responding to Hilda Rix’s Through the Gum Trees, Toongabbie (c. 1920) landscape painting, enveloped by the Gallery’s echoes and reverberations.

Up / Bright, Bright Blue follows on from Luke’s three performances at Dark M**o in 2023 and his recording project Levelled, created at the University of Technology’s industrial reverb chamber with Peter Hollo and Mara Schwerdtfeger, in 2022.

INTRODUCING PENELOPE TRAPPES

Penelope Trappes (UK) is an experimental vocalist and musician, creating intimate and sacred soundscapes that are minimalistic, spacious and shadowy.

Penelope released her fourth album, Heavenly Spheres, in April 2023 on her own imprint. Heavenly Spheres was composed using just piano, voice and an old reel to reel tape recorder during a two-week artist residency thanks to Britten Pears Arts at the house where the composer, teacher and musicologist Imogen Holst lived in Aldeburgh in Suffolk in the UK.

The release of Penelope Three in 2021, Penelope Two in 2018 via Houndstooth and Penelope One via Optimo Music in 2017, as well as Mother’s Blood (a reworking of Penelope Three without vocals) in 2021 and Penelope Redux (a reimagining of Penelope Two by artists Félicia Atkinson, Nik Colk Void and Cosey Fanni Tutti, amongst others) in 2019.

Penelope has shared stages with William Basinski, Mary Lattimore and the NYX drone choir, and has tirelessly toured the UK, Europe and Australia.

Penelope Trappes (UK) (Penelope Trappes) is an experimental vocalist and musician creating intimate and sacred soundscapes. Penelope released her fourth album, Heavenly Spheres, in April 2023 on her own Nite Hive imprint.

Luke M de Zilva (Gadigal Country/ Sydney) (Luke M de Zilva) is an experimental singer-songwriter, composer and curator, storytelling with vocals, reverberant guitar and strings. Luke released Levelled (Reverb Chamber Session) in August 2022.

And Monster Studies (Dharug and Gundungurra Country/ Blue Mountains) is Martin Kirkwood, Jerel Mani, Nathan Robinson and Nick Strike, a free-improvising electroacoustic quartet. Monster Studies released Bird Glass Imprint in January 2024.

Dream Alley Dream #10 is at the World Heritage Space at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre (30 Parke Street Katoomba, Blue Mountains), from 7 – 9:30pm Saturday the 23rd of March.

Tickets are $25 for general admission or $20 for students and concession card holders (plus booking fees) and kids are free (please let us know on booking of your little people). Tickets are available at the door subject to availability.
