Katherine Regional Arts - KRA is running this free filmmaking workshop tomorrow at the KRA studio (19 Second Street, enter via O’Shea Terrace) from 10am to 2.30pm!

Garth Edwards will be running the workshop. He is a filmmaker, actor and producer visiting Katherine this week to help out anyone who is interested in submitting a film for Katherine Big Shorts film festival (entries due by 5 August).

Tomorrow everyone will get a chance to film some short clips and Garth will walk us through the basics of editing both on your phone and on a computer.

All you need to bring is a phone to film on and some lunch! If you don’t have a decent camera on your phone come along anyway and we will make do.

Can’t wait to see you all there 🙂

Super excited to announce that Katherine Cinema 3 isn’t just screening movies, we’re making them too! We're making a sci-fi action-comedy short film in Katherine, and we're looking for NT-based talent to join us!

Shooting will occur over five days in Katherine, 22–26 June 2026. Production is funded through Screen Territory's SPARK 2026 initiative, so Transport, Accommodation and Catering will all be covered.

Synopsis:
When a young ex-scientist fleeing her own invention jumps into a taxi with a very reluctant, sharp-witted indigenous driver hiding a deadly secret, they are forced into a brutal standoff with mercenaries determined to reclaim their missing assets.

Casting:
We're casting several roles (6 x males, and 2 x females), including a female lead (23-35, any ethnicity), supporting and minor male roles across a mercenary squad, and two government agents. Physical/action work is involved for some roles.

Character Descriptions:

- Charlotte Zephyr (LEAD): Aged 23-35, women of any ethnicity. Ex-scientist, resourceful, conscience driven, and mentally done with corporate culture.
Physical role, including stunt and action work, however previous stunt and action experience is not required, this will be worked through in the pre-production process. Actress must be willing to carry a 12kg Hard Case as part of her role.

- Barry (SUPPORTING) — Age 25+, male. A mercenary obsessed with the AI upgrade on his gun. Comedic timing essential — think manchild tech-bro playing soldier.

- Tom (SUPPORTING) — Age 25+, male. The grounded, deadpan voice of reason in the mercenary squad. Doesn’t agree with Barry’s AI Upgrade. Dry delivery.

- Darren (SUPPORTING) — Age 30+, male. Mercenary Squad Leader. Authoritative and no-nonsense. Brief but commanding — meets a sharp end.

- Ben (SUPPORTING) — Age 25+, male. The Mercenary squad's physical powerhouse. Squares up in hand-to-hand combat. Fight choreography or stunt experience a strong plus. Wears a tactical mask throughout.

- Davis (MINOR) — Age 20+, male. Part of the Mercenary squad ensemble. Minimal dialogue, physical performance, wears a tactical mask throughout.

-Agent Kirby (SUPPORTING) — Aged 35+, female. Government agent with "Lasershades" (sunglasses that fire lasers). Sarcastic, sadistic, classic bureaucratic villain energy.

- Agent Hudson (SUPPORTING) — Aged 40+, male. Kirby's partner. Dry, unbothered, quietly amused by her cruelty. The straight man.
