Local artists, the Cementa Salon is calling!

Got work? Got almost-finished work? Got something leaning against the wall that just needs to be labelled, packed up and brought in?

The 2026 Cementa Salon is open to artists from the Mid and Central West of NSW, with special priority given to artists from Kandos, Rylstone and surrounds.

This year, the Salon gets its own big moment, opening in July and running right through to the final day of Cementa26!

Here’s what you need to know:
Where: WAYOUT Artspace, 71 Angus Avenue, Kandos
Who can enter: Artists from the Mid and Central West of NSW
Works accepted: 2D and 3D artworks
Maximum works: 4 per artist
Artwork drop-off: Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July, 12pm to 3pm
Opening: Saturday 18 July, 6pm
Exhibition dates: 18 July to 20 September

Entry forms are available now from Cementa Café / WAYOUT Artspace, open Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 2pm. You can also fill one out when you drop off your work.

Please make sure 2D works are ready to hang, with D-rings installed where possible, and all works are clearly labelled on the back.

Start finishing, framing, polishing, dusting off or finally committing to the thing. We can’t wait to see what you’ve been making!

Artists make Cementa what it is! They bring the ideas, the labour, the risk, the strange turns, the big questions, the generous exchanges and the work that stays with you long after the festival is over.

For Cementa26, we’ve doubled artist fees because paying artists properly is not a bonus, or a nice thing to do if there’s money left over. It is part of the work. It is part of making a festival that takes artists seriously, even when the art itself is playful, strange, messy, joyful or hard to explain.

Our first fundraising milestone is $15,000 by 30 June.

Every donation helps us move toward that target and keep Cementa artist-led, community-shaped and alive with the kind of contemporary art you can’t find anywhere else.

Cementa26 is almost upon us, which means behind the scenes things are getting very busy, very strange, and very Cementa. Artists are making, the team is wrangling, and the festival is taking shape in all the ways we dreamed it would.

And for Cementa26, we’ve doubled artist fees!

Because artists give far more to our cultural life than any festival can fully compensate. Because too much of the arts still runs on unpaid or underpaid labour, on extra hours, borrowed resources, generosity, risk and care. And because paying artists properly is not a nice extra. It’s central to the kind of festival we want to be.

So, we’re fundraising!

Cementa needs to raise $27,000 through donations and fundraising, with a first milestone of $15,000 by 30 June. Every cent helps us pay artists, support new work, and keep Cementa doing what Cementa does: bringing bold, generous, unexpected contemporary art into conversation with Kandos, community and place.

If you’ve ever loved a Cementa moment, wandered into something strange, or wondered how on earth this whole thing happens, this is one very practical way to be part of it.

🎶 Did someone say Kandos Karaoke Night!? 🎶

Next Friday, Cementa HQ is handing over the mic for an evening of songs about work, place and the music that connects with Kandos life.

Hosted by Cementa26 artist Hoang Tran Nguyen, Kandos Karaoke Night invites locals to sing, listen and reflect on the songs that resonate with their working life and relationship to the local area. There’ll be a themed karaoke song list ready to go, so you can take the mic, cheer someone else on, or just come along for the company.

The night will also feature a special locally penned song, My Name is Kandos.

Cementa26 is creeping closer, and we are very much counting down to September.

What are you most looking forward to? The art? The road trip? The people? The weird and wonderful things you’ll stumble across in Kandos and surrounds?
