Cementa28 is somewhere ahead. Cementa is a biennial contemporary arts festival in Kandos NSW. This festival brings together artists from urban and regional contexts for a four day celebration of the state of contemporary art in Australia. Taking its regional situation as focus, Cementa celebrates the diversity of voices that can be heard within our contemporary arts communities. We showcase contemporary art across the spectrums of generation, process, and practice.

How was your Cementa26? Did you find something brilliant? Weird? Confusing? Unexpected? Did you miss something you wish you’d seen? Did you have a very strong opinion about a kayak, a performance, a toilet, a poem or a particular corner of Kandos?

We want to hear about it!

Our Cementa26 post-festival survey is now open, and your feedback helps us understand what worked, what didn’t and what we should carry forward into the next festival.

It only takes a few minutes, and every response genuinely helps.

A LITTLE BIT OF CEMENTA IS COMING TO SYDNEY!

Saturday 7 November | From 3pm

We had a pretty incredible four days in Kandos for Cementa26. And while we're still catching our breath, we're already thinking about what comes next!

So we're bringing a little bit of Cementa to Sydney for a special fundraising gathering, and we'd love you to be part of it.

Think drinks, good conversation, a taste of Cementa26 and a room full of people who want to help keep Cementa happening.

This is a fundraising event for friends and supporters who want to contribute financially to Cementa's future. Donations will be collected on the day.

Places are limited, and registration is essential. The gathering will take place at a private Sydney venue, with the address shared with registered guests closer to the date.

CEMENTA28 ARTIST EOI NOW OPEN!

Want to be a part of it?

Our new Cementa28 curators, Uncle Peter Swain, Lana Nguyen and Lucas Ihlein, want to hear from you!

We're calling on artists of all career stages and practices to propose ideas that connect with Kandos, its people, histories, environment and all the unexpected possibilities of making art in a regional town.

You don't need to have it all figured out. In fact, we'd be a little suspicious if you did.

Selected artists will be invited to undertake a 1 to 3 week residency in Kandos, with a $1,000 artist fee, to develop ideas towards Cementa28.

EOIs close 5 November 2026.

MEET THE CEMENTA28 CURATORS!

One festival has finished and the next one has begun!

We're excited to introduce the curators for Cementa28: Uncle Peter Swain, Lana Nguyen and Lucas Ihlein.

They are asking: what if artists, curators, community and Country had more time to get to know each other? What if art projects could grow deeper roots, stretching across festivals, years, or even longer?

Our new curatorial team is imagining an … e.x.t.e.n.d.e.d … C.e.m.e.n.t.a … creating more room for experimentation, collaboration and the unexpected.

As the curators put it, this is "the opposite direction that the world is going, as time becomes more divided and attention spans become shorter; which is why we’ve got to do it!"

And where else but Kandos?

THANK YOU FOR COMING!

To everyone who drove, caught a train, packed the car, brought the kids, stayed with friends, camped, booked a room or just wandered down the street because something weird appeared around the corner: thank you.

Thank you for walking through Kandos, sitting through performances, joining workshops, asking questions, talking to artists, buying things, eating things, dancing, listening, laughing, getting lost and getting sidetracked.

Art needs people to meet it and for four days, you did.

Whether this was your first Cementa or you’ve been coming since the beginning, thank you for being part of Cementa26.

We hope you found something you’re still thinking about.

THANK YOU TO THE ARTISTS OF CEMENTA26.

For bringing the strange ideas.

For making work in halls, paddocks, parks, railway lines, kayaks, shop windows, community spaces and places that definitely did not come with a neat white wall and hanging system.

For travelling to Kandos, working with local people, adapting when things changed, sharing your practice and trusting us with the weird, ambitious, funny, difficult and unexpected things you wanted to make happen here.

Cementa is made by artists, and Cementa26 was no exception.

To every artist, performer, musician, poet, collaborator and collective who was part of this festival: thank you.

You made the town look, sound and feel completely different for four days.

THANK YOU, KANDOS.

Cementa doesn’t just happen in this town. It happens because of it.

Thank you to the people who opened doors, lent spaces, cooked food, moved things, fixed things, hosted artists, answered questions, shared stories, volunteered, showed up and helped make Cementa26 possible.

To our venues, local businesses, community groups, neighbours and everyone across Kandos and the wider region who opened a door, lent a hand, shared a space or simply helped us get there: thank you.

For four days, artists and audiences spilled through streets, halls, parks, shopfronts, paddocks and all kinds of unexpected corners of Kandos.

We couldn’t do this festival anywhere else.

Radical Fields brought Paradactic; or: Yak Yak Yak, Art Attack to Paul’s Paddock, turning it into a field of misguided ideas, participatory art and very questionable regional interventions.

We loved having SPS Solar + Pumping help make this wonderfully strange corner of the festival possible!
