During COVID, I developed a slight obsession with succulents.
Actually, it was more than slight. I became so obsessed that I started a little business called Crafty Little Succas
I was mesmerised by their structure—the repetition of the leaves, their colours, textures and incredible symmetry. I loved their resilience too. The way a tiny cutting could grow roots, regenerate and begin again.
Many succulents already resemble flowers, but when they bloom, they reveal something even more extraordinary.
I discovered this particular beauty at the Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. I didn’t catch its name, but I remember being completely captivated by its form.
My phone is filled with photos and videos of succulents as I capture them wherever I go, and lately they have been inspiring a new wave of creative ideas—exploring structure, identity, growth and the quiet strength found in nature.
Nature really is the most extraordinary artist.
