Member Group Feature — Queensland Bookbinders' Guild

Books may be at the heart of what they do, but the Queensland Bookbinders Guild is about so much more than books alone.

This talented group brings together artists, makers and craftspeople who explore the creative possibilities of paper, book arts and traditional binding techniques. Their work ranges from beautifully hand-bound journals and artist books to intricate paper creations, decorative bindings and contemporary book arts.

Combining craftsmanship, creativity and centuries-old techniques, members of the Guild create pieces that are both functional and artistic, showcasing the beauty of paper as a creative medium.

Visitors to the BVAC Arts & Craft Pop-Up will have the opportunity to discover a fascinating range of handmade works and learn more about the art of bookbinding and paper craft.

I had a lovely morning today hosting my Fractured Phrases Collage Workshop at the amazing Scrumptious Reads bookstore in Red Hill.
I was totally blown away by the beautiful and individual interpretations that the ladies created using the stash of Fractured Phrases and collage materials I supplied.
The results were totally unique.
A big thanks to Julie from Scrumptious Reads for hosting the event.
Our next workshop takes place on Saturday 25th July - and on that date I just have to go with a Christmas in July theme 🎅

My love of vintage books went into overdrive today.
Along with fellow members of the Queensland Bookbinders Guild I visited the Qld State Archives facility to view the Printed & Bound exhibition. This exhibition contains a wide range of vintage publications with a focus on the binding techniques used over time.
We then got to go behind closed doors for an informative guided tour of the preservation area, the storage areas and the Reading Room.
A most enjoyable experience.

Did you notice I was gone ?
It was minor panic last week when my Facebook account was suspended (i.e hacked) and as it's linked to my Instagram account that got deactivated as well :(
I must admit, I was drifting between "This is so inconvenient! " and "Social media is overrated anyway".
Just as I was getting used to reading a real book in the evenings and not mindlessly doom scrolling, it all got fixed.
So here is last week's creation from the studio 😀
