Inverell Art 😍

A community exhibition celebrating the creativity of students from regional schools took place at the Inverell Art Gallery during April. The exhibition showcased artwork created during Term 1 and provided students with the opportunity to exhibit in a professional gallery setting.
35 students from Ross Hill P.S had their artworks on display.
We would like to congratulate Year 4 student Jorja Myers, for receiving the "Visual Story Telling" Award for her artwork titled "A drive in the Country". Jorja completed this artwork during her class art session in the gallery with Mrs Henley.
Congratulations Jorja!

Ros Craig

Ros Craig lives and paints from her home studio in Leura in the beautiful Blue Mountains of NSW Australia. Ros. has been painting ‘seriously’ since late 2019, when her family generously gifted her with a series of Art Classes in Sydney.

Her art journey however started well before that at her Mother’s knee. She vividly remembers painting with her Mother on the dining room table in her family home. Art studies followed, in her final years of Secondary school & at Uni. And, ever a pencil or brush in her hand since!

“I paint what I love”

“My paintings can now be found through out Australia and the wider world, chosen generously by many I marvel and I remain so grateful.“

Phoebe Turner

This series of seven artworks, handbuilt using midfire clay and a combination of commercial and handmade glazes, speaks to my love of nature. These pieces are intentionally whimsical; they offer the mind and heart a diversion from the heaviness of this world.

Petrice Mitchell

My practice explores abstracted landscapes shaped by memory, movement and a deep connection to place. Living and working in regional NSW, I draw inspiration from the shifting colours, textures and rhythms of the Australian landscape - particularly the Riverina. I paint intuitively, building layers with acrylics to create depth and movement. I am drawn to the space where structure meets looseness to create a suggestion and feeling of landscape rather than that of clearly defined one

Peta Moore

My studio is nestled in the serene landscape of Northern NSW. The wide open spaces surrounding my studio afford space for thought and clarity essential to my work. Through exploring visual memory, I create semi abstract interpretations of the landscape. I am especially drawn to painting rural and outback surroundings, and channel my love for the country into my art. My process begins with observation and immersion in the landscape. This usually involves walking in the landscape for quite some time followed by smaller scale sketching. By doing this I am learning the lay of the landscape. As I simplify the compositions back in the studio, I allow memory and intuition to take over. The mark making becomes gestural and free. Working largely allows my work to remain free and capture that same feeling from the landscape for the viewer. I enjoy layering the pencils, paint and oil pastels to create depth and interest in the work. Colour is important in my practice and I use it to represent the richness of the Australian landscape. Through each work I aim to heighten a long lasting emotional response in the viewer.

Melanie Norman

The works presented - Surface Memory, Fruits of Her Labour, Inner Weather, and The Gravity of Memory, form part of an ongoing exploration of how experience settles into the body and remains over time. These paintings are not built from fixed plans, but through a responsive, material-led process where surfaces are layered, disrupted, and partially erased. Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, each piece evolves through accumulation and resistance. Marks are added and pulled back. Areas are softened or obscured. What remains is not a resolved image, but a record of what has been felt and held. Across the works, there is a quiet tension between presence and absence. Memory does not appear as something clear or complete - it fragments, lingers, and reshapes itself. In Fruits of Her Labour, this takes on a more personal form, reflecting on inherited care, family, and the unseen foundations that continue to hold us. In contrast, Surface Memory and The Gravity of Memory lean into the weight of what stays, while Inner Weather considers the more internal, shifting emotional landscape. Together, these works do not attempt to explain or resolve experience. They hold space for it - allowing gesture, texture, and colour to carry what words often cannot.

Mary McMillan

Mary McMillan is a self-taught hand embroidery artist who works with thread, fabric, and natural fibres.

Her artistic practice focuses on recreating the organic forms and patterns of the natural world through combining stitch and fabric manipulation, often incorporating found materials.

She is particularly drawn to the abundance of mosses, fungi and lichens that can be found in the New England region.

Her work is an invitation to slow down and reflect on the beauty and resilience of the natural world that surrounds us.

Leree Lindsay

Leree is a contemporary still life artist whose work celebrates the lush beauty of nature. She draws inspiration from the garden that surrounds her studio but also sources flowers and inspiration from local growers. The colours and tones in her paintings reflect the changing seasons and the flowers that are blooming. Using a palette knife and oil paint she has the freedom to work alla-prima. By applying the paint thickly it allows her to denote expression and gesture giving movement and life into her canvases.

Kerry Hardy

After thirty years in graphic design and illustration, I’ve traded the screen for a new canvas: clay. This collection is a playful exploration of my illustrative roots through a tactile medium.

By layering vibrant underglazes and using sgraffito to carve fine details, I’m able to “draw” directly into the clay. It’s a joyful blend of decades of design experience and the beautiful, messy chaos of clay.
