Art West Community Gallery

Our selection of pieces changes every 8 weeks. Our aim is to establish a Community Art Gallery in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane.

Located in Indooroopilly, our gallery features a diverse range of unique pieces from local artists in various media, including paintings, sculptures, and photography. This facility would be available to all established and emerging artists in the widest possible range of artistic endeavour without discrimination. It would be available for exhibitions of any type of art thought to be appropriate by

the managing committee. Educational and Workshop facilities would be available. Functions relevant to the artistic aims and aspirations of the community would be held. We would be seeking support and funding from the community, from established organisations and local and State Government. Art West as a community gallery provides an important social connection in the community where art not only unifies but provides a creative outlet for for many. Going Places — Eva Dowling

Bold, colourful and full of energy, Going Places is a vibrant mixed-media work that invites you to get lost in its layers of colour, pattern and texture.

With bright blues, greens, pinks, oranges and reds layered across the canvas, Eva Dowling creates a lively composition filled with circles, marks, drips and playful details. There’s something new to discover each time you look — and the combination of structured shapes and expressive, spontaneous marks gives the work a wonderful sense of movement.

Family of Three — Barbara Taylor

There’s something wonderfully peaceful about Family of Three, Barbara Taylor’s beautiful acrylic painting of three white platinum koi gliding through the water.

The gorgeous colour palette really brings this piece to life — from the rich teal and turquoise water to the deep blue shadows, pops of green and warm touches of red and orange in the aquatic plants. Against these colours, the luminous white and soft grey of the koi really stand out, creating a beautiful sense of movement and contrast.

The bubbles, flowing fins and rippling water add to the feeling of a quiet underwater world, while the three fish swimming together give the work a lovely sense of connection and harmony.

💜 Bliss — Di Cox Gallery

Soft, dreamy and full of colour, Bliss is a beautiful floral work by Di Cox that brings together delicate blooms, flowing forms and a richly layered background.

Clusters of rose-like flowers in gentle pinks, creams and warm yellows drift across a textured field of lavender, mauve and blue. The loose, expressive brushwork and splashes of light give the piece a sense of movement, while the trailing blooms create a lovely flowing rhythm across the canvas.

Wattle Glow — Margaret Turner

Fig Tree, Mt Coot-tha — Bernadette McConville

There’s something wonderfully Australian about an old fig tree — its twisting roots, weathered trunk and sense of having stood quietly through the seasons. This painting captures that character beautifully, with Bernadette McConville bringing the textures and earthy tones of the Brisbane landscape to life.

Workshop Recap: Painting Gum Blossom in Watercolour

What a lovely Saturday at ArtWest Community Gallery!

Last weekend, Shruti Kashikar and Leonie Seabrook co-facilitated their Painting Gum Blossom in Watercolour workshop, bringing together a wonderful group of artists for an afternoon of creativity, colour and Australian inspiration. 🎨

There was plenty of painting, learning and sharing — and, of course, time to browse the artwork currently on display throughout the gallery.

We love seeing our gallery space come alive with workshops and creative sessions, and it was wonderful to have such an enthusiastic group joining us.

A big thank you to Shruti and Leonie for sharing their skills, and to everyone who came along and made the afternoon such a success.

We hope to see you all back at ArtWest again soon!
