A wonderful evening in St Helens celebrating the opening of the Bay of Fires Art Prize, and proudly supporting our three Handmark finalists: Susan Simonini, Rodney Alexander, and Nick Glade-Wright.

One special moment captured here is Susan alongside judge Katy Woodroffe and artist Grace Gladdish, a lovely reflection of the generous, encouraging, and deeply connected nature of our artistic community.

It was a pleasure to see Susan and Rodney at the opening, and to share in such a thoughtfully curated exhibition. Although both of Susan's pieces currently in our 'Affordable Art' exhibition have sold, keep you eyes peeled for Susan's upcoming exhibition with Handmark later in the year. From sweeping coastlines to quiet and expansive terrains, this selection from our 'Affordable Art' exhibition gathers works that explore the many moods of the landscape. Atmosphere shifts, light softens or sharpens, and each piece offers its own sense of place.

These are not simply depictions of land, but reflections on our relationship to it, the quiet pull of horizon lines, the rhythm of sky and ground, the way a place can hold time, story, and atmosphere all at once.

“An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.” — Martin Buber

Handmark's 'Affordable Art' exhibition has a selection of artworks featuring exquisitely rendered animals, not simply as subjects, but as presences. Observed, imagined, abstracted or rendered with fine detail, each work holds a kind of dialogue between human and animal, viewer and viewed.

Emerging artist Wilhelmina Burnell joins Handmark with her whimsical abstract paintings that explode with joy, a deep connection to the waterways of lutruwita/Tasmania underpin this talented artist's practice.

From her earliest days in infancy on the water to painting en plein air alongside her family, these experiences flow through her practice. Back in the studio, they transform into bold, expressive worlds, simultaneously landscape and underwater dream, where organic forms drift, gather and reveal themselves slowly to the eye.

Colour is her lifeblood, instinctive and joyful, carrying each work with a sense of energy and quiet wonder.

We’re delighted to welcome Wilhelmina to the Handmark family.

Join us for the opening of our Affordable Art Exhibition this Friday 22 May from 5pm where Wilhelmina will feature work.
